Quick reverse
Stereo cassette decks employ a 4-track
recording/playback system. The first half of
the stereophonic recording or playback takes
place on tracks I and 2 (side A), and the
second half takes place on tracks 3 and 4
(side B). In a conventional cassette deck, you
must turn over the cassette tape if you want to
record or play back on a different side. The
Akai GX-R66 iS equipped with the quick
reverse system. The tape travel direction
changes automatically at the end of the tape.
Therefore, there is no need to turn over the
cassette tape yourself.
Note:
You can also manually change the tape travel
direction by depressing the forward
reverse (4) button without first pressing
The direction indicators will show the tape
travel direction.
Attention!
quick reverse operation, always usea tape with very cleare
leader tape sections.
When a prerecorded tape is used for one-cycle (forwardto
reverse) the first one second of the reverse side of
the tape will not be erased. PEase manually erase this section.
During quick reverse cneration, no recording witl be made for
0.8 second as the recording head reverses direction.

RPPS operatbns.
The microprocessor "brain" and infared "eye" of the
Akai GX-R66 allow for maximum
recording and playback operations.
Playback
I. Press the Reverse selector

A. Indicates the tape can travel in only one direction
depending on which button is depressed : either (4)
or W).
B. Indicates one full cycle. The tape will play to the end
of side 1 , reverse, play side 2 and then stop.
C. Indicates infinite play back. The tape will continue
reverse and playback both sides until you change
the function.
Record
I. Press the REC/PAUSE (WI) button to standby
recording
2. Press the Rev. Selector to set the mode
A. Same as above only in recording mode.
B. In this mode, the Akai GX-R66 will record one com-
plete cycle (side A and side B).
RPPS System
Although the GX-R66 iS a full reverse deck, the RPPS
system considers the tape to have a beginning
which is more like an open loop than the completely
closed loop of the full reverse function.
