Notes on the Cromargan® thermal jug and thermal beaker
The thermal jug and thermal beaker best keep contents warm when filled to the maximum level. The
time the content is kept warm may be reduced significantly if the jug/beaker is only partially filled or
almost empty.
Note: It is best to rinse the thermal jug/beaker with hot water before use. To seal, turn the lid in a
clockwise direction until it sits snugly on the thermal jug/beaker. To pour, press the pour button on the
lid. To open the thermal jug/beaker, turn the lid slightly counter-clockwise. The thermal jug and ther-
mal beaker are made of double-walled Cromargan® and therefore completely shatter-proof. However,
they should be protected against mechanical stresses nevertheless. Rinse out the thermal jug/beaker
regularly. If iron particles from water accumulate on the Cromargan® surface, they can cause pitting
at those points. These deposits must therefore be removed immediately with a stainless steel cleanser.

Cleaning and care

Cleaning
Unplug the mains plug and allow the appliance to cool down.
Do not immerse the appliance in water. Outer surfaces can be cleaned using a damp cloth and a little
washing-up liquid.
Do not use harsh or abrasive cleaning agents.
The filter (3), thermal jug (8) and thermal beaker (9) can be cleaned under running water. Alternatively,
you can also clean them in the dishwasher.
Scale indicator
Limescale deposits extend brewing times and lower the quality of your coffee. They also lead to energy
losses and impair the service life of the appliance. The automatic scale indicator determines when
it is time for descaling. Depending on coffee consumption and the set water hardness, you may be
prompted to descale every 4-6 weeks. This is indicated when the descaling symbol (
permanently.
Setting the water hardness
Your appliance has an automatic scale indicator. To prevent too much limescale building up, the appli-
ance is set for very hard water by default. Ask the responsible waterworks or local authorities about
the hardness of your tap water. Change the default setting if the water hardness is less than 21°dH.
You will then not be prompted to descale as often as before. To this end, press and hold the descaling
button (the - button) for about 3 seconds until the display (6) shows the currently set water hardness
(H1, H2, H3 or H4) and the descaling symbol (
Confirm the setting by pressing the timer button (

Descaling agent
Use a commercially available descaling agent that is suitable for filter coffee machines.
Do not use regular or concentrated vinegar because this may damage the materials in the appli-
ance.
Use of descaling agents based on citric acid may lead to the formation of precipitates that seal the
limescale layer or clog up the lines in the appliance. Descaling with citric acid also takes too long, as a
result of which complete descaling cannot be guaranteed.
Our warranty does not cover damage caused by using unsuitable descaling agents or failing to
comply with the descaling instructions.
Handle descaling agents carefully to prevent damaging furniture or clothing.
Descaling
▪ Insert a paper filter in the filter (3), close the filter lid (2), and place the thermal jug (8) in the
machine. Any larger pieces of limescale residue may collect on the filter paper, thus preventing the
outlet valve from clogging.
▪ Add descaling agent to the water tank (4) as per the manufacturer's instructions, fill with tap water
up to the 5-cup mark and switch the appliance on.
▪ After the descaling solution has passed through, empty the thermal jug (8), switch off the appli-
ance and allow to cool for 5 minutes.
Important: Rinse the water tank (4) after descaling. To do so, open the tank cover (1), fill the tank
with fresh tap water up to the 5-cup mark and start the brewing procedure. Then rinse the filter (3)
and thermal jug (8) under running water.
Note: In the event of heavy calcification, repeat the descaling process.
Starting the descaling programme
To start the descaling programme, press and hold down the descaling button (-) for about 3 seconds
until the display shows the currently set water hardness (H1, H2, H3 or H4) and the descaling symbol.
Press the on/off button within 5 seconds to start the descaling programme. The word "CALC" and the
descaling symbol (
) appear in the display.
