Use
The WMF KÜCHENminis® espresso maker is a space-saving and energy-effi cient kitchen appliance.
It can be used to prepare two or four cups of freshly brewed aromatic espresso coffee. The espresso
maker is simple to operate.
For optimal results, we recommend using a medium-fi ne ground espresso powder.
Before using for the fi rst time
Set-up
1. Begin by cleaning all parts as described in the section entitled "Cleaning and care".
2. Any length of non-required cable should be fed into the bottom of the base.
3. Place the appliance on a stable, water-resistant surface.

Starting up the appliance

1. Fill the reservoir with cold water to the two- or four-cup mark, as required.
Under no circumstances should you fi ll the reservoir beyond the four-cup mark.
2. Use the fi lter basket to prepare four cups.
If you want to make only two cups, place the adapter into the fi lter basket before fi lling it with
espresso powder.
Now pour espresso powder into the basket and smooth the surface without pressing it down.
Note: if the espresso powder is pressed into the fi lter basket, the holes may become clogged.
Use your fi nger to remove any powder on the edges. This ensures that the appliance can seal
properly.
3. Insert the fi lter basket into the water reservoir.
4. Place the jug on top of the water reservoir and screw it closed by turning it in a clockwise
direction.
5. Place the appliance on the base and plug the mains plug into an earthed wall socket. Turn on the
appliance using the on/off switch. The indicator light glows white.
6. Once brewing has fi nished, the appliance switches off automatically and the indicator light turns
off.
7. The coffee is served directly from the appliance. For an even strength and a balanced aroma, stir
the espresso in the jug or swirl the jug carefully.

Safety system

A safety valve protects the appliance against over-pressurising. For this reason, it must not be
tampered with under any circumstances. The pressure valve is not guaranteed to work safely if the
appliance is operated with too much water.
If the appliance is accidentally operated without water, a thermostat switches the appliance off to
protect it from overheating. The appliance is ready to use again once it has cooled down.
Should the fi rst thermostat malfunction due to improper use, an additional temperature limiter
provides reliable protection.

Cleaning and care

Cleaning
Unplug the mains plug and allow the appliance to cool down.
Do not immerse the appliance in water, but instead just use a damp cloth and a
little washing-up liquid to clean its exterior.
Do not use harsh or abrasive cleaning agents.
Remove the fi lter and the sealing ring from underneath the jug by inserting a
spoon handle under the sealing ring and levering it off.
After cleaning, place the fi lter back in position, then reinsert the sealing ring.
The jug, fi lter basket and adapter can be rinsed off under running water.
In order to ensure the long-term functioning of the pressure relief valve, use your
fi nger to push the plunger slightly outwards from the inside each time you clean
the machine.
Descaling agent
We recommend using Cromargol®. This product is highly effective, food safe and
neutral in taste and smell. Thanks to its special care formula with six high-quality
and protective additives, Cromargol® is also very gentle on materials.
You can usually purchase Cromargol® from the store where you purchased your
appliance or from your chosen dealer. The Cromargol® / Cromargol® water
kettle decalcifi er is only available in Germany and Austria.
You can also use a commercially available descaling agent that is suitable for
stainless steel.
Do not use vinegar or vinegar concentrate because this can damage the
materials in the appliance.
When using descalers based on citric acids, precipitates could form during
descaling and seal the limescale layer, thus making it even harder to remove.
Descaling using citric acid is very slow.
Damage caused by the use of an unsuitable descaling agent or through non-
compliance with the descaling instructions is not covered by our warranty claim.
Handle the descaling agent carefully to ensure that no furniture or clothing
is damaged.
Descaling
▪ Prior to descaling, unplug the appliance from the mains and allow it to cool
down.
▪ Pour half a measure (50 ml) of Cromargol® into the water reservoir and leave
the appliance to stand until the layer of limescale has detached from the base.
Then fi ll the reservoir with cold tap water to cover the limescale ring on the
inner wall and leave to stand for 15 minutes.
▪ Then pour out the water and rinse thoroughly with cold tap water.
▪ Measure out and use other descaling agents in accordance with the
manufacturer's instructions.
Do not heat the solution during descaling.
Caution: the warranty does not cover damage caused by failure to observe the
descaling instructions.
