Take 5
The German Nutrition Society recommends that you
should eat 3 servings of vegetables and 2 servings
of fruit a day, a total of 5 portions. One portion corre-
sponds to a child's hand.
At the beginning, the topic of portion sizes should
be discussed with the children. The Food Pyramid is
then filled with various, finely cut, fruits and vegeta-
bles. The children can then put together a fruit and
vegetable plate with 3 servings of vegetables and 2
servings of fruit.
Matching with picture Cards
To start the children paint a wide variety of different
food on picture cards. These are then laminated. The
groove on the shelves is used to insert the picture
cards. Now these cards can be placed in the right
place on the Food Pyramid together.
Food stories -
Uncle Thirsty and Aunt Tomatoe
Once the children are familiar with each level of the
Food Pyramid, it can also be used for storytelling. The
pedagogical specialist lays out different food that
they want to use in the story. Then the pedagogical
specialist tells the story to the children. If a certain
food is mentioned, the children have to put it into the
Food Pyramid. Who can find and put the food on the
correct level the quickest
Example
ncle Thirsty is very hungry today. For breakfast he
eats a large piece of bread with cheese. Then he goes
to the market with aunt Tomato....
