nutrition can be conveyed to children by interacting with all their senses. The following ideas can be imple-
mented with real food
Getting to know the food pyramid:
In order to become familiar with „healthy eating", it
is advisable to go shopping with the children at the
weekly market or in the supermarket. It is best to buy
something from each food group. Then the food py-
ramid is discussed in detail with the children and they
try to place the food in the correct categorie from the
Food Pyramid.
Healthy Breakfast Buffet :
The individual components of a typical continental
breakfast such as muesli, sausage, cheese, fruit,
vegetables ... are sorted into the Food Pyramid by
the educational specialist. Each child can now put
together their own breakfast. the Food Pyramid helps

What´s in my favorite food?
All the children can bring their favorite food from
home. The food bring in will stimulate a discussion,
what is the food made of and where should it be
classified? In this way, the children get to know food
better and get a feeling for which food is healthy and
which is less, what can be eaten frequently and which
food should be eaten less often. At the same time, it
will help the children to get to know different types of
food, including typical food. During a cooking activity,
the children can also categorize the ingredients and
then enjoy eating the food together. Alternatively, the
Food Pyramid can also be used with food made of
plastic or wood (e.g. Article Number 540 046 vege-
table assortment and Article Number 540 048 fruit
assortment) as well as with self-designed cards.
