Installation

The relevant national regulations(e.g. Elex V, the
equipment safety law for Germany) and the
generally recognized rules of engineering apply
for the installation and operation
(IEC/EN 60079-14).
The improper installation and operation of
the photo-cell may result in the invalidation
of the guarantee.
6.1

Mounting

The photo-cell shall be mounted on a certified
protective enclosure suitable for the application.
The correct thread must be selected.
Ensure that the thread is clean and
undamaged.The Explosion protection can not
be guarantied on incorrect mounting or
mounting with a dirty or damaged thread.
The thread on the apparatus and in the
Ex-d protective enclosure must meet the
minimum requirements of the
IEC/EN 60079-1.
When mounted in enclosures or apparatus with
explosion protection "flameproof enclosure"
(Ex-d), the wall thickness must be > 10mm.
So that the photo-cell can not vibrate
loose or unscrew the thread of the photo-cell
must be screwed in completely and stuck
- with a 2 component adhesive
or
- secured with a lock nut.
To ensure the correct ingress protection a seal
between the enclosure and the photo-cell
should be used.
Over tightening can lead to damage of the
thread (see technical data).

6.2

Electrical connection

The electrical connection of the apparatus
may only be carried out by skilled staff and in
acc. to IEC/EN 60079-14.
Ensure that the installation is isolated
before installing the photo-cell or take
appropriate precautions.
For electrical connection see the wiring diagram.
The properly bared conductors of cables shall be
connected with due regard to the respective
regulations.
The insulation shall reach up to the
terminal. The conductor itself shall not be
damaged.
The conductor ends should be fitted with
appropriate cable sleves.
The conductors shall be connected with special
care.
The connecting cable must not be thermally or
mechanically overloaded.
The explosion group may be adversely affected.
6.3

Putting into operation

Before putting the apparatus into operation, the
tests specified in the individual national
regulations shall be performed.
In addition to this, before being put into
operation, the correct functioning of the
apparatus and installation of the apparatus shall
be checked in accordance with these operating
instructions and other applicable regulations.
If the reference pressure exceeds 20 bar,
the photocell shall be incorporated in the
type test according to IEC/EN 60079-1,
Section 15.2.3 (overpressure test) in accor-
dance with the group classification (IIA, IIB or
IIC) of the respective apparatus.
The assignment of temperatures to the
temperature class of the photocell shall be
laid down in the type test of the respective
electrical apparatus.
According to Directive 94/9/EC
(from 20.04.2016 - 2014/34/EU), by definition
the photocell and the connection compart-
ment with the photocell mounted in its wall
are component parts.
- The component parts shall be completed by
a responsible person.
- As an individual functional unit, the
resulting assembly is then classified as a
product and the responsible person as the
manufacturer.
The improper operation of photo-cell may
result in the invalidation of the guarantee.

6.3.1 Changing the light sensitivity

The light sensitivity can set of in following steps:
04 - 11 Lux
07 - 12 Lux
10 - 15 Lux
by changing the included filter disks
Observe the pictures on page 2.
Overtightening might impair the
protection category.
7

Maintenance / Servicing

The valid national regulations for the
servicing / maintenance of electrical
apparatus for use in potentially explosive
atmospheres shall be observed
(IEC/EN 60079-17).
The necessary intervals between servicing
depend upon the specific application and shall be
stipulated by the operator according to the
respective operating conditions.
During servicing, above all, the parts on which
the explosion protection depend, (e.g. intactness
of the flameproof components, the enclosure,
the seals and cable entries).
If, in the course of servicing, it is ascertained,
that repairs are necessary, section 8 of these
operating instructions shall be observed.

Repairs / Overhaul /

Modification

Only original COOPER Crouse-Hinds parts shall
be used for carrying out repairs.
In the event of damage to the flameproof
encapsulation, replacement of the photo-cell
is mandatory. In case of doubt, the respective
photo-cell shall be sent to COOPER Crouse-
Hinds for repair.
Repairs that affect the explosion
protection may only be carried out by
COOPER Crouse-Hinds or by a qualified
electrician in compliance with the respective
national regulations (IEC/EN 60079-19).
Apparatus modifications or design changes are
not permitted.
They shall be used for their intended purpose
and shall be in a perfect and clean state.
9

Disposal / Recycling

The respective valid national regulations for
waste disposal shall be observed when
disposing of apparatus.
In order to facilitate the recycling of individual
components, plastic parts are provided with the
identification mark of the plastic material used.
The product range is subject to changes and
additions.
