1 Introduction
This manual is for the Vetus (rigid) plastic diesel fuel tanks.
These tanks comply with the requirements according to ISO
10088. See the drawings on page 27 for dimensions. Tolerances
of + or - 2% apply to all dimensions!
These tanks are made from low pressure polythene and therefore
have the following properties: they are algae resistant, hardly any
condensation is formed, the material is insulating, the surface is
very smooth, the plastic is indestructible and very environmen-
tally-friendly and there are no electrolysis problems.
2 Installation
2.1 General
When choosing a location for the tank and a place for the deck
filler cap, take the following into account:
The filler hose must be kept as short as possible, it must run con-
tinuously to the tank and be as straight as possible.
When the fuel tank is used for petrol, the room where the tank is
fitted must be sufficiently ventilated. See also remarks in 'Intro-
duction' .
Instead of just one tank, it is also possible to distribute the total
capacity required over two or more tanks.
Depending on the way connected, there are two possibilities:
- The two tanks are filled and used as one large tank.
- The two tanks can be filled and used independently but they
can also be used as one large tank.
In the case of a twin-engine installation, it is strongly re-
commended that a separate tank is installed for each engine. The
fuel supply pipes should be fitted in such a way that in the case
of an emergency, either of the tanks can supply both engines.
Each tank must be fitted with a filler connector and air-relief.

If the tank is used to store petrol it must be positioned in a
well ventilated room. The use of plastic tanks for storing
petrol is not permitted for ships that must comply with the
requirements of the Recreational Craft Directive (CE)!
Position the tank in such a way that the plug P is on the top
side of the tank. Consult the diagrams on page 27 for place-
ment of plug P.

Never fit the filler cap in an enclosed space, spilled fuel could
then enter the ship!
