Adjusting the eyepieces / eyeguards

Eyepieces
Before the first examination, the eyepieces should be adjus-
ted singly to correspond with the refraction divergence of the
examiner.
Left eyepiece
Insert the provided focusing rod (74) in place of the pivoting
mirror (75) with the flat projection surface facing the microsco-
pe. Line up the illumination unit and the microscope in the
central position (0°).
Adjust the left eyepiece, by turning the knurled ring with the
diopter scale separately, until the projected slit is seen in
focus. Adjust from (+) to (-) at low magnification.
Right eyepiece
See A.5
Younger examiners are recommended to make an additional
correction on both eyepieces of - 1 to - 2 diopters each, to
compensate for the accommodation that occurs as a result of
convergence when conducting binocular examinations. The
requisite pupil distance on the microscope can then be adjus-
ted.
Eyeguard
The adjustable eyeguard serves to set up the correct working
distance of the examiner to the eyepiece.
For examiners without spectacles:
pull out the eyeguard fully to the extended position.
For examiners wearing spectacles:
push in the eyeguard fully to the retracted position.

Possibilities for regulating the brightness

The brightness of the slit light illumination can be varied by
means of
• the knob on the instrument base which adjusts the intensity
of the slit illumination
• the 10 % grey filter on the upper part of the illumination
unit of the slit lamp
