3.2.3 How to align the patient

Initial patient alignment is the same for all image capture procedures.
1. Ask the patient to sit up straight in front of the device.
2. Stand to the side of the patient where you can reach the touch screen, the table height switch, and
from where you can monitor the position of the patient's face.
3. Adjust the table or seat so that the patient's eyes are aligned to the

4. Ask the patient to:
a. Place their hands in their lap and feet flat on the floor.
b. Follow the fixation target as they move in close to the device. Refer to the Patient Alignment
Guide on page 75 .
c. Turn their head slightly so that their nose is on the outside of the face pad. You should check
that the patient's head is vertical and has not been tilted.
d. Check that the patient's head is supported by the head rest, that their teeth are together and
mouth closed.
e. Adjust the chin rest height to support the patient's chin, see Using the chin rest and head
rest on page 34 . Check that the patient's chin does not go beyond the edge of the chin rest,
as this may affect the quality of the image.
f. Ensure the patient blinks before capturing the image so that the cornea is lubricated.
