3.1.B - For machines with premium graded fuel engine (VS K9 B&S - VS K9 HONDA)
take the necessary precautions against fi re when working in dry areas.
do not smoke while working or refuelling.
never refuel the log splitter while it is running. switch the engine off and leave it to cool. fi ll with fuel taking care that the tank does not overfl ow. wipe
off any traces of petrol before starting up. Handle fuel with care.
Never touch the engine or the exhaust pipe as they become very hot and may cause burns.
WARNING
DO NOT START THE ENGINE IN AN ENCLOSED SPACE; EXHAUST FUMES ARE LETHAL.

4 - OPERATING THE MACHINE

The model VS K9 allows the operator to work in 4 different positions: from completely vertical to completely
horizontal (fi g.7, page 3). In order to modify the position, remove the fi xing pin, position the machine as desired,
therefore, re-insert the pin in the relative hole and secure it with the 'R'-shaped spring (fi g.7).
The log splitter, in compliance with standard EN 609-1, is activated with a two hand control: the machine will function only when both the levers
are activated together (fi g.5, page 3 and fi g.10, page 5).
Never use the log splitter if it is not in perfect order or if it needs servicing. Before starting work, check correct functioning of all the safety devices
(two hands control and switch-off button).
Before starting work, check the integrity of the fl exible pipes and the lack of leaks in the connections, check the level of the hydraulic oil in the tank
and top up if necessary with one of the oils indicated on page 19.
The oil level must be between the two notches on the oil dipstick (A in fi g.4, page 2)
Before starting work, switch on the log splitter and let the oil warm up for a few minutes.
4.1.A - For machines with 3-phase electric motor (VS K9 T)
If the motor does not run in the correct direction, invert two of the phases in the socket. Remove the plug from the log splitter. Insert a slotted screwdriver
with a suitably sized wedge in the slot located in the connection inlet close to the electric motor as shown in fi gure 3, page 2.
Exerting a slight pressure, turn the white wheel by 180°. This operation physically inverts the poles on the three-phase motor.
Check that the motor runs in the correct direction as indicated by the arrow.
Never open the box containing the switch, or open the terminal block on the motor. if it is necessary to do so, have
these operations carried out by your electrician.
If the fuses blow or the protection valve trips, this means that you are overloading the motor or the electrical installation is not correctly rated. Consult
your electrician.
4.1.B - For machines with premium graded fuel engine (VS K9 B&S - VS K9 HONDA)
Before operating the log splitter, carefully read the user's manual for the engine fi tted. study the maintenance regulations and guarantee supplied.
Check the oil level in the engine block. top up if necessary.
WARNING: working without oil causes irreparable damage.
When the engine is new, it is important, at fi rst start-up, to let it turn over without performing any work for at least twenty minutes. this running-in
period ensures maximum performance and smooth operation of the whole system.

4.2 - Opening the cylinder

Before using the log splitter, the cylinder must be lifted as follows:
Position a piece of wood under the wedge, on the work surface (A in fi g.5, page 3)
Activate both the control levers (B in fi g.5) downwards:
Release the right lever (B in fi g.6, page 3) and insert the cylinder check pins in the appropriate holes (C in fi g.6)
Release also the left lever (A in fi g.6, page 3), therefore activate both the control levers upwards, until they clamp.
upper position, ready to start working
At the end of the stroke the stopping device bring automatically the levers in the neutral position
WARNING
NEVER MOVE THE LOG SPLITTER WHEN THE CYLINDER IS LIFTED. THE MANUFACTURER IS NOT LIABLE FOR INJURY TO
PERSONS, ANIMALS OR OTHER THINGS CAUSED BY TRANSPORTING THE LOG SPLITTER WITH THE CYLINDER LIFTED.

4.3 - Lighting

Lighting must be provided in the entire work area of the log splitter to ensure perfect visibility when operating the machine and during maintenance
and adjustments. Even when working outdoors, there must be suffi cient light to work safely. Working at times when insuffi cient light may result in poor
visibility of the machine and its components (dawn, dusk, night) is forbidden.
