Start of Sewing
CAUTION!
Danger of injury! Keep fi ngers away from all moving parts. Special care should be
taken in the area of the sewing needle.
Make sure that the upper thread and lower thread are correctly threaded! Incorrect
thread guidance can cause the thread to rip, stitches can be missed, or the fabric
may curl along the seam. Under some circumstances, the device might be damaged.
The threads and the fabric must be inserted in the sewing machine correctly before
you press the On/Off switch (5) or the foot control (25). After you activate the On/Off
switch or the foot control, the machine starts to sew immediately.
Practise fi rst on a scrap piece of fabric before you start the actual sewing. Check the
thread tension.
During sewing, you should not pull or push the fabric. This may cause the needle to
break.
1. Tack the fabrics before doing any sewing.
7. Turn the hand wheel (anticlockwise) towards you until the needle pricks into the fab-
ric. Firmly hold the fabric and the upper thread end.
8. Press down the reverse button (4) and sew 3 to 5 stitches backwards (see the "Sew-
ing With and Without Foot Control" section).
9. Stop the machine, release the reverse button and carry on sewing forwards. The
fabric is transported behind the sewing machine. Carefully guide the fabric with one
hand in front of the needle and one hand behind it so that the seam ends up straight.
10. Slow down the sewing speed towards the end of the seam, stop the machine, press
the reverse button to sew a few stitches backwards, and then stop the machine.

2. Elevate the needle by turning the hand wheel (3) (clock-
wise) away from you.
3. Raise the presser foot lever (18).
4. Use the stitch adjusting wheel (1) to choose a type of stitch
(see the "Selecting Stitches" section).
5. Place the fabric to be machined under the presser foot (16).
Make sure that the fabric edge is at least 3 to 5 stitch
lengths behind the sewing needle so that it is possible to
sew backwards. With a straight stitch, the right edge of the
fabric should be level with the presser foot. (The other use-
ful stitches are dealt with later in this chapter.)
6. Lower the presser foot.
