14. MAINTENANCE AND CLEANING

disconnecting the power supply and having waited for the reservoir to cool off.
The reservoir must be thoroughly cleaned, in order to prevent the limescale that deposits to the bottom from
being sucked into the boiler, causing obstructions within the circuits. This might block the solenoid valve, and
also reduce the flow of water in the pipes and in the group head, affecting the result of the coffee dispensed
in the cup.
For general cleaning procedures, use a common detergent or a water and vinegar solution. The use of non-
aggressive detergents is recommended. Always remember to rinse thoroughly after cleaning.
The portafilter and filters must be cleaned by soaking them in a solution of water and baking soda or a
specific detergent for coffee machines. Subsequently, they must be rinsed with running water.
Check if the filter installed under the group head is encrusted with coffee. If so, take the portafilter by its grip,
remove the filter, and replace it temporarily with the blind filter supplied with the machine. Put a spoonful of
coffee machine detergent in the blind filter, then insert the portafilter under the group head.
When the machine is ready for use, raise the brew lever, for about 10 seconds, and then lower it for another
10 seconds. Repeat 5 times. Immediately after, remove the blind filter from the group head. Discharge only hot
water through the lever, just enough to eliminate all impurities that have dissolved in it. As a final step, make 1
espresso, which must then be thrown away.
The bottom of the reservoir must be cleaned often (fig. 4, table 2), in order to remove all limescale residues
and prevent the machine from suddenly malfunctioning.

15. UPDATING SOFTWARE

In the event of updates, the firmware update will be made available to the user.
For the update, the "image.bin" file must be copied on a USB storage device (ex. USB Flash Drive) directly
into the main root of the device without using folders. At this point, make sure that Alex Duetto Evo machine is
turned off using the red ON/OFF button. Insert the USB storage device into the connector located on the
left side, using the cable supplied. After having properly inserted it, turn on the Alex Duetto Evo machine, and
wait for the information on the display. A visual message will come up on the display to confirm that the
procedure has been completed. At this point, the USB storage device can be removed and the Alex
Duetto Evo machine can be turned on. Once the Alex Duetto Evo machine is turned on, the updated
firmware will be displayed with the new code.
