6.4. Use gas ballast

Make sure that air / gas entry through the ballast valve does not produce reactive, explosive or
otherwise hazardous mixes. In case of doubt use inert gasses. If not sure, get in touch with
Heidolph.
Using air instead of inert gasses may involve damage to your hardware and/or the
environment, serious injuries, danger to life due to production of hazardous and / or explosive
mixes, if air and substance pumped react in the pump or at the pump outlet port.
Condensable vapors (steam, solvents, ...):
Open gas ballast valve (refer to picture). Rotate
through 180° to close valve.
The gas ballast valve being open, final vacuum
specified will not be reached.
Never load pump with steam before having
reached operating temperature.
Condensate produced:
Use Woulff flask (optional) and condensate cooler
(optional) (no condensate reflux, controlled condensate collecting).
Not using a condensate cooler at the output end, hazardous substances may escape;
refer to your local regulations !
Check fluid level in Woulff flask and receiving flask of the condensate cooler; empty on condition:
open clamp, remove condensate cooler, drain condensate.
aerate system via vacuum fitting, unthread all hoses, and remove Woulff flask, drain
condensate.
Caution: dispose of chemical substance in accordance with local regulations.

6.5. Discontinue operation:

Short-term:
Is there any accumulation of condensate in the pump ?
Allow the pump to run a few extra minutes with open intake stud.
Is there any accumulation of substances in the pump that might degrade pump material ?
Clean and check pump heads on condition.
Long term:
Do actions as described for short-term putting out of operation.
Disconnect pump from system.
Close manual gas ballast valve.
Close inlet and outlet ports (e.g. with caps).
Store pump in a dry place.
