6. ROTAVAC valve control, ROTAVAC valve tec, ROTAVAC
vario control and ROTAVAC vario tec

6.1. Installation in rotary evaporator system:

Avoid obstruction losses by using short vacuum lines of high cross section.
Avoid transfer of mechanical loads by stiff lines; use elastic hoses or shock attenuators instead.
Caution: elastic elements may contract during evacuation.
Avoid condensate reflux from the pump's exhaust end; exhaust pipes need to be routed with
adequate slope.

6.2. Prior to first operation:

Max. ambient temperature: 40 °C.
Installing in whatever sort of housing or while working at high ambient temperatures make sure
to have adequate ventilation. Maintain a safety offset of 20 cm between fans and adjacent
parts.
Gas ballast valve of the pump being open, electric power failure may cause aeration. If such
situation might be hazardous, take adequate action.
Avoid whatever sort of leakage in your installation; check system for leaks after installation.

6.3. Operation:

The pump may be started at 1 bar max. differential pressure between in- and outlet port to avoid
damage to the motor.
Refer to max. admissible pressure at outlet port and max. admissible pressure difference
between in- and outlet port of the pump (refer to "Specifications" section).
High compression ratio of the pumps may cause high pressure at output end; never close
the output end of the pump !
The pump is going to reach specified suction and output pressure values, as well as vapor
compatibility at normal operating temperature (after abt. 15 minutes).
Avoid condensation in the pump, hard fluid pulses and dust; continuous feeding of fluids or
dust may damage diaphragm and valves.
Run pump with gas ballast to minimize condensation of pumped substances in the pump
(steam, solvents, .....).
A thermal winding protector will disconnect motor power supply in case of overtemperature.
Caution: accepts manual reset only. Turn pump OFF and disconnect power plug. Allow about 5
minutes for cooling before restart.
