Standard mechanisms of the PROFIBUS DP are used to transport
diagnostic information. The DIAGNOSIS parameter from the Physical
Block is then available to the master as diagnostic information. The
diagnostic messages can be made visible online in the module status
with the aid of a tool, e.g. SIMATIC HW config (STEP 7).
A diagnostic telegram is sent in place of the cyclic measured value
when a diagnostic message comes or goes. The diagnosis can be read
out on a class 1 master if the station is switched "online" (station is the
hierarchical stage beneath a project in the SIMATIC Manager, see
section 6.4 "Literature and Catalogs" /2/):
