b. Open the valve to discard the deionized water from the sensor, then close the valve again.
7. Measure the calibration standard as follows:
a. Put the contents of the ampule into the empty vial. Touch the top edge of the ampule to the
top edge of the vial to pull the liquid into the vial.
b. Use a pipette to fill the sensor with the calibration standard.
c. Open the valve to discard the calibration standard from the sensor, then close the valve again.
d. Use the pipette to fill the sensor with the calibration standard.
e. Put a plug in the fitting on the top of the sensor.
f. Push confirm.
g. Wait approximately 20 seconds, then push confirm.
8. Enter the PAH value of the calibration standard, then push confirm.
9. Remove the plug from the top of the sensor.
10. Open the valve to discard the calibration standard, then close the valve again.
11. Review the calibration result:
• COMPLETE—The sensor is calibrated and ready to measure samples. The calibration offset
value shows on the display.
• FAIL—The calibration offset is outside of accepted limits. Do the calibration again.
12. If the calibration result is complete, push confirm.
13. Remove the plug and valve to discard the calibration standard.
14. Discard the open ampule.
15. Discard the contents of the vial.
16. Connect the sample tubing to the sensor.
17. Start the flow of water to the sensor, then push confirm.
The output signal returns to the active state and the measured sample value shows on the
measure screen.
4.7 Do a 2-point calibration
Chemical exposure hazard. Obey laboratory safety procedures and wear all of the personal protective equipment
appropriate to the chemicals that are handled. Refer to the current safety data sheets (MSDS/SDS) for safety
protocols.
Chemical exposure hazard. Dispose of chemicals and wastes in accordance with local, regional and
national regulations.
Notes:
• A 2-point calibration changes the default offset and slope value, which fine tunes the factory
calibration.
• Do not let the contents of an ampule freeze or the ampule can break.
• If the standard ampules are refrigerated or freeze, increase the temperature of the standard
ampules to room temperature, keep at room temperature for 24 hours, then shake the standard
ampules for 30 to 60 seconds before use.
• Heat will degrade the Phenanthrene standards if the standards are stored at 35 °C (95 °F) for
more than 12 hours.
It is recommended that a 2-point calibration is done at commissioning by the manufacturer's service
department or a certified partner.
