For instance, when there is a 5000K overhead light
above the subject, the shoulders may appear yellowish
on the picture. On the shoulders, the light from the
built-in strobe is weak and the external light is strong.
Since the shutter speed is slow, the CCD collects too
much light from the strong reflections from the
shoulders.
Forced flash mode ( )
Application
This mode is suitable for indoor portraits and
identification shots. It is not suitable for shots using an
external strobe. However, this mode is the best when
using a shadow-clearing strobe connected to the
camera with a synchronization cord.
Outline
In this mode, the shutter speed is fixed at
built-in strobe lights, regardless of the condition of the
subject. Before the shutter works, the built-in strobe
lights at a moderate level, and the camera then detects
the overall lighting conditions. The camera
automatically adjusts the settings to optimal values,
including exposure and white balance, then
photographs the subject.
Manual intervention
The user can manually change the exposure by two
steps towards the under and over sides (±2 EV). The
center value is the optimal exposure calculated
according to the automatic photometry.
For WHITE BALANCE, select one of the following
values: 4000K, 4400K, 4800K, 5200K, 5600K, and
6000K. In AUTO mode, WHITE BALANCE is
automatically set according to the automatic
photometry. The One Push White Balance feature
requires experience and intuition, and is not
recommended for the general user.
For APERTURE, select OPEN, PROG, or CLOSE.
Use PROG whenever possible. In PROG mode, the
camera automatically selects OPEN (F4 to F4.7) or
CLOSE (F11.4 to F13.5) according to the brightness of
the subject.
1 Tips
This mode is designed to allow easy photographing of
indoor portraits and identification shots. Before the
shutter works, the built-in strobe lights at a moderate
power, and the camera detects the overall lighting
conditions. Therefore, when using an external shadow-
clearing strobe, connect it to the camera with a
synchronization cord. A slave-type shadow-clearing
strobe, which reacts to the light from the main strobe,
cannot be used. To use a slave-type shadow-clearing
strobe, use the forced external flash mode ( E)
explained next.
Forced external flash mode ( E)
Application
This mode is suitable for indoor portraits and
certificate shots using an external strobe. When the
external strobe is used as the main light source, the no
built-in flash mode ( E) is recommended.

for a subject 1.2 m away from the lens. By factory
default, the color temperature is set at 5600K. Change
the color temperature according to the operating
conditions.
Manual intervention
The user can manually change the exposure by two
steps towards the under side (-2 EV) and one step to
the over side (+1 EV). The center value is the optimal
exposure for a subject 1.2 m away from the lens.
For WHITE BALANCE, select one of the following
values: 4000K, 4400K, 4800K, 5200K, 5600K,
6000K, 6500K, and 7000K.
For APERTURE, select OPEN or CLOSE. Use OPEN
(F4 to F4.7) whenever possible.
1 Tips
When an external strobe is used, the subject receives
light from both the built-in and external strobes. Thus,
the user must keep the following two points in mind:
• Overexposure is quite likely, so it is necessary to
adjust the total power of light offered by the external
strobe. The camera has an exposure compensation
feature, and you can manually lower the EXPOSURE
value to -2 EV. However, it is desirable to minimize
exposure compensation to ensure good picture
quality. For this reason, it is recommended that you
do not lower the camera's EXPOSURE value to
-2 EV. It is recommended that you adjust the
external strobe to obtain the best exposure while
limiting the adjustment on the camera to -1.5 EV.
