- ALV (ALIVE) = charge/discharge/charge/discharge/charge
The ALIVE programme is used for activating new batteries and such which have been stored over a lon-
ger period of time.
If slot 1 is already processing a battery, the selection starts with the same programme as this battery
(SAME AS SLOT 1); otherwise the selection starts with CHARGE.
Please note that new or previously improperly processed batteries may only be able to store 30% of their
capacity. This bad effect is shown in a very big charge capacity (C) and a very small discharge capacity
(D). Charge these batteries with the ALIVE programme. After severak cycles, the retrievable capacity
increases (D).
NiCd and NiMH batteries should be charged with C/3 to 1C.
Battery voltage
The voltage of the battery is stated in unloaded conditoin (and can therefore not be measured during
operation). If no voltage U is displayed, it has not yet been established by the charging device.
Battery condition
In order to gain a rough overview of the conditoin of the battery to be charged or discharged, a battery
symbol is displayed with this device. This sumbol only serves to identify with a quick look how far the char-
ging process has progressed. During charging, the battery symbol is filled from bottom to top, while the
opposite is the case when discharging. Conclusions regarding the expected time remaining until the end
of the programme are therefore not possible. If the battery's charging condition was not established, a
question mark appears instead of the battery symbol (in these instructions the battery symbol is generally
displayed with a „?").
Charge and discharge current
When charging and discharging the current circulating through the battery I is displayed. If no current
was established at the start of the programme or if no current circulates after ending the programme
(READY/ERROR), I= 0.000A is displayed.
Times
The complete time in hours and minutes (hh:mm) over which the battery was charged and discharged is
displayed. The time of recharging (trickle) is not added.
If a battery exceeds approx. 80% of the capacity it can take up during the recharging process, a portion
of the charging current will be converted into heat. This can heat up the battery.
Charging types
There is only one charging type. The charging current is approx. 300 bis 2000mA for round cells. For the
two 9V block batteries, the charging current is 18mA.
The discharge current of the charging device is max. 850mA for round cells, for the two 9V slots 16mA.
