Guide unit (Figs. A, F)
The guide rails (24) enable clean and accurate cuts
to be made and they also protect the workpiece
surface from being damaged.
Using clamps (26) to hold the workpiece (25) ena-
bles the workpiece to be secured in place and safe
working conditions.
The play in the guide rails must be kept to the mini-
mum during sawing in order to be able to realise
optimum results and it can be set up using the two
rail adjusters (13, 14).
1. Slacken the screw in the rail adjuster so that
you can reset the play.
2. Screw the knob/set-screw inwards until the saw
is up against the rail.
3. Now turn the knob/set-screw back out until the
saw can just move freely.
4. The factory set position should be acceptable
for most common applications. In case you have
too much play, it needs to be adjusted by using
the provided allen key. This will require some
force.

SETTING UP THE SPLINTER GUARD
The guide rail (24) is fi tted with a splinter guard
(27), which has to be set up for the saw before it
is used initially.
The splinter guard (27) is fi tted to each edge of
the guide rail (Fig. G). The purpose of this splinter
guard is to provide the user with a visible saw blade
cutting line while reducing the splinters that occur
along the cut edge of the workpiece during cutting.
PREPARING THE SPLINTER GUARD (Figs. H - K)
1. Place the guide rail (24) on a piece of scrap
wood (28) that is at least 100 mm longer than
the workpiece. Use a clamp to ensure that the
guide rail is securely attached to the workpiece.
This will ensure accuracy.
2. Set the saw to a cutting depth of 15 mm.
3. Place the front of the saw on the overhanging
end of the guide rail and ensure that the blade
is positioned in front of the rail edge (Fig. I).
4. Switch the saw on. Slowly cut the splinter guard
along the full length of the rail in a continuous
process. The edge of the splinter guard now
corresponds exactly to the cutting edge of the
blade (Fig. J).
Remove the saw from the rail and rotate the rail by
180° so that you can set up the splinter guard on
the other side of the guide rail. Repeat steps 1 - 4.

NOTE: The splinter guard can be set to 45° if
necessary. If so, you must repeat steps 1 - 4. This
allows one side of the rail to be used for cutting
parallel cuts and the other side of the rail for 45°
bevel cuts (Fig. K).
NOTE: If the splinter guard is set up for parallel
cutting on both sides then the blade will not run true
to the edge of the splinter guard if the saw is set
up for bevelled cutting. This will result in the saw's
bevelling pivot point not being stationary. The cut-
ting movement will cause the saw blade to move off
of the line during a bevelled cut.
USING THE CORRECT CHANNEL
The bottom of the shoe consists of two channels.
One channel is for making parallel cuts and the other
channel is for making bevelled cuts.
The sign at the front of the shoe (Fig. L) tells you
the channel that is suitable for use with a specifi c
application. Ensure that the line on the label is in
aligned with the channel on the guide rail when
making cuts. Figure M shows the saw in the paral-
lel cutting position relative to the guide rail. Figure
N shows the saw in the bevelled cutting position
relative to the guide rail.
Prior to starting work
WARNING! Make sure the saw blade
guards have been fi tted correctly. The saw
blade guard must be in closed position.
WARNING! Make sure the saw blade rota-
tes in the direction of the arrow on the blade.
OPERATION

injury, turn power tool off and discon-
nect it from the mains before making
any adjustments or removing/fitting
attachments or accessories.
WARNING! ALWAYS make sure that all of
the functions are working properly before
using the circular saw!
