d) Always ensure that the lower guard is cover-
ing the blade before placing saw down on
the workbench or the fl oor. An unprotected,
coasting blade will cause the saw to walk back-
wards, cutting whatever is in its path. Always
keep in mind the time it takes for the blade to
fi nally stop after the trigger switch is released.
Additional safety instructions for all
saws with a riving knife
a) Use the appropriate riving knife for the blade
being used. For the riving knife to work it must
be thicker than the body of the blade, but thinner
than the blade's teeth.
b) Adjust the riving knife as described in this
instruction manual. Incorrect spacing, posi-
tioning and alignment can make the riving knife
ineffective in preventing kickback.
c) The riving knife must be engaged in the
workpiece for it to work. The riving knife is
ineffective in preventing kickback in a short cut!
d) Never use the saw if the riving knife is bent.
Even a minor problem can slow the closing rate
of a guard.
Additional safety warnings for
circular saws
❏ Always wear ear protectors! Exposure to
noise can cause hearing loss.
❏ Always wear a dust mask! Inhaling dust parti-
cles can cause breathing diffi culty and possible
injuries.
❏ Never use saw blades with larger or smaller
diameters than recommended. Refer to the
technical specifi cations to fi nd the correct cut-
ting capacity rating. Use only the saw blades
specified in this manual that comply with
EN 847-1.
❏ Never use abrasive circular saws.
❏ Ensure that the riving knife is adjusted so that
the gap between the riving knife and the rim of
the blade is not more than 5 mm and that the rim
of the blade does not extend more than 5 mm
beyond the lowest edge of the gap.
