Testing the compressed air
breathing apparatus
Compressed air breathing apparatus sets with the lung
demand valve firmly connected to the pressure reducer
cannot be tested as described in the following. Contact
the manufacturer for more information.
Preparing the test device
Necessary accessories:
— If necessary, medium pressure shut-off valve
(AG 02 382)
 Connect the compressed air
breathing apparatus with the
test device (1).
The plug-in coupling must
engage.
 When the hose of the lung
demand valve has a coupling,
connect the medium pressure
shut-off valve to the medium pressure outlet.
The following work is carried out on a high pressure system.
Make sure that all connections are secure before open-
ing the cylinder valve.
Otherwise there is a risk of injury from parts becoming
loose from the system.
Testing the static medium pressure and medium
pressure measurements
 Open the cylinder valve (2).
 Read the medium pressure (3) and compare with the

 Set the test time
.
 Read the medium pressure and compare with the first value.
Performing the high pressure leak test
 Make sure that the medium
pressure shut-off valve is
closed.

 Set the test time
.
 Close the cylinder valve and
read the pressure on the
manometer.
 Start the timer.
 Read the pressure at the end
of the test time and compare
the pressure difference with

the target value
 Open the medium pressure shut-off valve to deaerate
the system.
Comparing the manometer
Necessary accessories:
— External high pressure manometer (R 28 445)
— T-piece (33 37 660)
 Disconnect the cylinder from the pressure reducer.
 Insert the external high pressure manometer with T-
piece and connecting piece between the cylinder and
the pressure reducer.
 Connect the medium pressure
hose of the lung demand valve
to the test device (1).
 Open the cylinder valve.
 Connect the lung demand
valve to the standard thread
connection (2).
 Read the pressure on the manometer of the com-
pressed air breathing apparatus and compare with the
value of the external high pressure manometer.
2
 Close the cylinder valve.
 Slowly generate a negative pressure (3) to reduce the
pressure to the next test value.
 Compare the values of the manometer.
The manometers should be compared at different pres-
sures, e.g., at 300 bar, 200 bar, 100 bar, 70 bar.
Testing the response threshold of the warning device
 Slowly deaerate the compressed air breathing appara-
tus.
 When the warning whistle of the compressed air
breathing apparatus sounds, read the value at the
external high pressure manometer and compare with
the target value
Ending the test
 Depressurize the line system.
 Remove the test assembly.
