1 Introduction
This manual applies to the Vetus (rigid) plastic diesel fuel tanks.
These tanks conform to ISO 10088 Standards.
For dimensions, see drawings on page 14. Tolerances of + or - 2%
apply to all dimensions!
These tanks are made from low pressure polythene and therefore
have the following properties: they are algae resistant, hardly any
condensation is formed, the material is insulating, the surface is
very smooth, the plastic is indestructible and very environmen-
tally-friendly and there are no electrolysis problems.
If the tank is used to store petrol it must be positioned in a
well ventilated room. The use of plastic tanks for storing
petrol is not permitted for ships that must comply with the
requirements of the Recreational Craft Directive (CE)!
2 Installation
2.1 General
When choosing a location for the tank and a place for the deck
filler cap, take the following into account:
The filler hose must be kept as short as possible; it must run con-
tinuously to the tank and be as straight as possible.
Never fit the filler cap in an enclosed space, spilled fuel could
then enter the ship!
When the fuel tank is used for petrol, the room where the tank is
fitted must be sufficiently ventilated. See also remarks in 'Intro-
duction' .
Distribute the tanks, and
thus the weight, evenly over
the ship (F = Fuel, W = Water).
Positioning
Install the tank in such a way
that it is easily accessible for
inspection. The tank should
always be installed above the
maximum bilge water level.
Also ensure that there is suf-
ficient free space at the top of
the tank for the hose connec-
tion. This connection must be
easily reached during installa-
tion. For ventilation, the tank
should have a free space of about 1 cm (
other tanks.

Make sure the tank has a
sufficiently secure founda-
tion on which to install it
and secure it properly. The
dimensions of the tank will
increase a little when it is
filled. Take this into account
when fixing the tank.
Fix the tank securely with the
fitting straps from the instal-
lation kit; these will accom-
modate the expansion of the
tank.
Fitting in sailing ships
When fitting remember that the filler hose must always be posi-
tioned on the same side of the ship as the tank.
This prevents too high a pressure from possibly occurring in the
tank when sailing at an angle.
2.2 Assembling the Fittings
Push the rubber grommets
in the pre-drilled holes.
One specific connection side
of each fitting must always
be fitted in the rubber grom-
met. Moisten the fittings and
press in the rubber grom-
mets.
