Precautions for all media
• Before using any media, make sure to read its
operating instructions carefully.
• Initialize all newly purchased media with a digital
camera. If you initialize the media with any other
device, such as a personal computer, the unit may not
be able to read the image data stored on the media.
• Do not attempt to use any media that is not supported
by the unit, as this could damage the unit.
• Parallel data transfer (hi-speed data transfer) is
supported by the unit. However, reading and writing
times may differ, depending on the media being used.
• Insert the media directly into the corresponding slot on
the unit. Do not attempt to insert any media into a
CompactFlash adapter set in the CompactFlash slot, as
this may delete or damage the image data stored on the
media.
• Always orient the media correctly before inserting it.
Do not insert any media in the wrong direction, as this
may damage the unit, the media, or both.
• Do not remove the media or turn off the unit while
reading or writing data, as this may delete or damage
the image data stored on the media.
• We recommend that you back up all important data
stored on your media before using it with the unit.
• Always carry and store the media in its case.
• Avoid storing or using media under the following
conditions:
– In a hot location, such as inside a car or outside on a
very hot day
– In direct sunlight
– In a humid location or a location where corrosion
occurs easily
– In a location where the media could be exposed to
electrostatic discharge or electronic noise
• Do not touch the contacts on the media with anything,
including your fingers or metallic objects.
• Do not get the media wet.
• Do not strike, bend, or drop the media.
• Do not attempt to disassemble or modify the media.

"Memory Stick"

The "Memory Stick" is a removable, compact IC data
storage card for use with digital still cameras and
personal computers. Image data stored on a "Memory
Stick" can be easily displayed, overwritten, or deleted.
This unit is verified to operate correctly with "Memory
Sticks" up to 2 GB. But operation is not guaranteed for
all types of "Memory Stick."
Supported "Memory Stick" types
The "Memory Stick" comes in two types: a general
purpose "Memory Stick" and a "MagicGate Memory
Stick," featuring the MagicGate encryption technology
for protecting copyrighted material. The unit is
compatible with both types of "Memory Stick."
However, because the unit does not support the
MagicGate standard, image data recorded with the unit
is not protected by MagicGate.
In addition, "Memory Stick Duo," "Memory Stick
PRO," and "Memory Stick PRO Duo" can also be used
with this unit.
This unit is equipped with a slot that supports both
standard and Duo-size "Memory Sticks." Because this
type of slot is designed to automatically judge the size of
an inserted "Memory Stick," it allows you to use a
standard-size "Memory Stick" or a compact "Memory
Stick Duo" without the need for a "Memory Stick Duo"
adapter.
Notes
• Do not insert multiple "Memory Sticks" at the same
time, as this may damage the unit.
• Always orient the "Memory Stick" correctly before
inserting it in the unit.
"MagicGate" is the collective term for the encryption technology
developed by Sony to protect copyrighted material.
To write-protect a "Memory Stick"
To protect important data from accidental erasure, the
"Memory Stick" has a write-protect switch. When the
switch is in the left-hand position, data can be written to
or deleted from the "Memory Stick," and the "Memory
Stick" can be initialized. When the switch is in the right-
hand position, data can be read from but not written to
the "Memory Stick." When inserting a "Memory Stick"
into the unit to read data, slide the write-protect switch
to the protected state.
