The following steps must be carried out for differential measurement:
INFORMATION
We recommend resetting sensors to factory setting (function 22, or 7.2.2) before configuration of
sensors as master or slave.
When using two sensors, measuring errors (resolution, response time, non-linearity, etc.) have to
be multiplied by factor 2 with differential thickness measurement.
1. Mount both FT 50 RLA-...S1 sensors so that the distance to the object is always within the scanning
distance of the sensors.
2. Connect sensors according to the electrical connection diagram (Illustr. 21).
3. First configure one of the sensors as the slave, by activating function no. 26 (differential thickness) or
function no. 27 (parallel difference) (see chapter 7.2.2 „Possible configurations and operating modes").
4. Insert reference object of known reference value in measuring range.
Warning: LED "OK" (Good target) must light up on both sensors.
5. Configure the second FT 50 RLA-S1 sensor as the master. Activate function no. 25.
Warning: The sensor can only be configured as a master when the object is inside the measuring range of
both sensors (see point 4).
6. The analogue output on the master now indicates 12 mA. This corresponds with the measured reference
value. All the function settings on the master now relate to the difference to the reference object.
7. Feed objects into the measuring range to start measurement.
8. The measured value (analogue value on master) now supplies the difference to the reference object. The
analogue output of the slave indicates the distance from the slave to the object.
