Mounting Pin Configurations/Setup
 The Standard Elite back models are available in a
range of widths up to 20W (51cm). Heavy-Duty
Elite back models range from 21W (53cm) -
24W (61cm). All Elite back models are offered in
1" (25mm) width increments.
Two sets of mounting pins (standard pins and
long pins) are supplied with every Elite back.
The standard pins are factory installed and
suitable for most wheelchair configurations. The
long pins are designed to allow installation onto
wheelchair back canes that are up to 1" (25 mm)
wider than the width of the actual backrest:
Example- for a 16W (41cm) Elite Back:
• 16" (41cm) wheelchair seat frame/back cane
width = Standard Pins
• 17" (43cm) wheelchair seat frame/back cane
width = Long Pins
When a narrower mounting pin configuration is
used, the range of depth/recline adjustment for
the back may be more limited than in wider
configurations.
Extended Mounting Pins (EMP) are also available
(sold separately) to allow interfacing of Elite
backs onto wheelchair seat frames up to 2"
(51cm) wider than the actual back width- see
Warning below.
12 INCH (31cm) WIDE ELITE BACK (see
image A) - Ensure the correct number of
spacers have been installed between the back
mounting plate and cane clamp (refer to 12
Inch (31cm) Wide Elite Back Only - Spacer
Installation on page 6).
When installing the Elite back on wheelchairs
with a 12 inch (31cm) to 13 inch (33cm) back
cane width long mounting pins must be
installed.
ELITE HD BACK (see image B) - A pem-nut
backing plate (not shown) is used to secure the
mounting pins to the Elite HD back. When
exchanging the mounting pins the pem-nut
backing plate must be realigned with the new
mounting pins to complete installation.
WARNING
Extended Mounting Pins (EMP's) are only for use with our standard back models (up to 300
lbs/136 kg weight capacity).
Never use EMP's with Invacare Matrx Heavy-Duty Elite back models; EMP's are not recommended
for use in tilt applications.
