Before Installation
12 Inch (31cm) Wide Elite Back Only - Spacer Installation
Spacers are provided to fit the Elite back to the wheelchair back canes as follows:
11 inch (28cm) to 12 inch (31cm) Back Cane Width - one spacer (shipped pre assembled
between the cane clamp and back mounting bracket).
12 inch (31cm) to 13 inch (33cm) Back Cane Width - Requires installation of a second spacer
to each back mount.

Remove the three screws and cane clamp nut plate securing the back mounting plate from the cane
clamp.
2.
Position the dilatational spacer between the
cane clamp and the back mounting plate.
3.
Using the three screws and cane clamp nut plate,
secure the cane clamp and two spacers to the
back mounting plate.
4.
Repeat STEPS 1-3 to install a second spacer
between the remaining back mounting plate and
cane clamp.
When installing the Elite back on
wheelchairs with a 12 inch (31cm) to
13 inch (33cm) back cane width long
mounting pins must be installed. Refer
to Mounting Pin Configurations/Setup
on page 9.
Mounting Configuration
WARNING
When establishing the mounting position for the Invacare Matrx Elite back, ensure the stability of
the wheelchair is not compromised.
Adjusting the forward and aft position of the backrest will alter the user's center of gravity within
the wheelchair. A recessed back position can significantly reduce the rearward stability of the
wheelchair. Similarly, a more forward back position will reduce the wheelchair's forward stability.
The mounting hardware provided with your Elite back is pre-assembled in the rearmost mounting
configuration. This allows the wheelchair seat depth to be maximized (up to a maximum 2.5" (64 mm)
rearward offset - see image A).
By changing the orientation of the cane clamps on
the mounting plates, the assembly can be
reconfigured* to provide a more forward
mounting position for the back if desired (up to a
maximum 2.5" (64 mm) forward offset - see image
B).
Each mounting plates is also designed
to provide 1.5" (38 mm) of fore and aft
adjustment relative to the cane clamp.
*To reconfigure a mounting plate/cane clamp to
the forward most orientation:
1.
Detach the mounting plate from the cane clamp
(3 screws);
2.
Rotate the cane clamp 180° and re-fasten it to
mounting plate;
3.
Install cane clamp as illustrated in image B.
