2 Safety instructions

2.4 About appropriate use

This appliance may only be used in house-
holds. It is not suitable for industrial or com-
mercial use.
Only use the appliance to clean up small
amounts of dirt.
Any other use is considered inappropriate and
is prohibited.
It is especially forbidden:
To use the appliance near explosive or
easily flammable substances. There is danger
of fire or explosion.
To stick objects into the appliance's open-
ings. There is a danger of injury.
To modify or repair the appliance yourself.
There is a danger of injury.
To use accessories other than those de-
scribed in this manual. The safety of the de-
vice cannot be ensured in such instances.
To use the appliance outdoors. There is
danger of rain or dirt destroying the appliance.
To use the appliance without a filter or with
damp or defective filters. Damage might come
to the appliance.

2.5 Before you use the appliance

Unpack the appliance and its accessories and
check that the contents are undamaged and
that everything is there (Fig. 1).
Consult your dealer immediately if you detect
damage due to transport ( Page 102, "Inter-
national Service").
It is also forbidden:
to vacuum-clean:
- Persons, animals, plants, especially
hair, fingers and other parts of the body
as well as pieces of clothing worn on the
body. They could be sucked in and
cause injuries.
- Water and other fluids, especially damp
carpet cleaning agents. Moisture inside
the appliance can cause a short-circuit.
- Toner (for laser printers, copying ma-
chines, etc.). There is danger of fire or
explosion.
- Red-hot ash, burning cigarettes or other
burning, red-hot, glowing or smoking ob-
jects. This could cause a fire.
- Pointed objects, such as glass shards,
nails, etc. They can damage the filters
and the appliance.
- Rubble, plaster, cement, fine drilling-
dust, make-up, powder, etc. These
might damage the appliance.
Dispose of no longer needed packaging mate-
rial according to the laws of your country of
residence. Keep the original packaging for
storage or just in case you need to send the
appliance by post.
