CHECKS BEFORE
There may be times when you suspect that your car radio is not functioning as you expect it to.
Before calling for service please read the operating / installing instructions and check the
following list.You may find that an apparent malfunction can easily be rectified.
Symptoms
General
Set does not function. No display.
Set functions but with no or poor sound.
Setmuteswhen you drive the car or display
shows 'CALL'.
Detachable front of set feels warm.
The sound from the speakers is reduced.
Radio
Poor radio reception.
Display shows frequency (not station name).*
Display shows 'ALARM'.*
Unable to tune to desired
search tuning.
Display shows 'NO TA' and set bleeps.*
CD
Display shows 'NO CD' or 'ERROR'
Distorted sound during playback.
If you still have to sendyour set for service, a lwayssend the completeset (with detachablefront).
Do not try to openthe set to service it yourself.

Possible Causel Remedy
• Check fuse (set and car) and connections.
• Adjust volume of set to demute set.
• Check fader and balance settings.
• Check the aerial and its connection.
• If car phone is connected, check setting of 'PHONE'
option, see'INITIAL SETTINGS'.
• Set 'PHONE' option to 'NO' see'INITIAL SETTINGS'.
Some heat is alwaysgenerated by the set.
A built-in safety circuit prevents the temperature
in the set from exceeding a certain level.
• Wait until 'TOO HOT' does not appear on the display
when increasing the volume.
• Check that the aerial is fully extended and
properly connected.
• Check that the negative terminal (brown lead)
is connected to earth (car chassis).
Set is tuned to non-RDS
Emergency announcement is being broadcast.
• Check the tuner standard, see 'INITIAL
option 'TUN'.
The desired station is too
• Tune to desired station using Manual tuning.
• Check that the aerial is fully extended.
Set is in TA mode: only stations with Traffic
Announcements can be tuned
• If necessary switch off the TA mode.
Set is in TA mode but the selected

• Switch off the TA mode
No CD inserted, or CD inserted upside-down or
