INSTALLATION - MECHANICAL COMPONENTS (AWD CONFIGURATION)
For the installation of an all-wheel drive in your caravan, please follow the instructions descri-
bed in the previous sections „Installation - Mechanical Components". AWD installation follows
exactly the same procedure, the only difference being the orientation of the manoeuvring aid.
In an AWD configuration, the manoeuvring aids driving the rear axle of the vehicle must face
the front of the trailer (see Fig. 12).
Follow the AWD configuration section of the electrical/electronic installation manual closely to
ensure that these motor assemblies work as intended and not against each other.
ENGAGING/DISENGAGING THE MANOEUVRING AID
With the Berger Titanium manoeuvring aid, engagement is manual. To engage your motors,
place the engagement tool (6) on the motor spindle (fig.2.G) parallel to the ground in a position
away from the respective wheel. To engage the engine, turn the engagement tool 180° in
the direction of the wheel concerned (Fig. 7). If you have mounted the crossed actuating rods
correctly, the process of engaging an engine should subsequently engage the opposite side of
the vehicle as well.
The engagement mechanism works with a simple cam that presses the rollers onto the tyres
and then engages automatically. If the roller has been correctly fitted and is exactly 20 mm
from the tyres when disengaged, the force exerted by the roller on the tyre is sufficient for most
applications (Fig. 9).
Note: Regardless of which side of the vehicle you engage from, the tool should always rotate
towards the wheel to engage and away from the wheel to disengage.
To disengage the rollers, simply place the tool back on one of the spindles and rotate it away
from the tyre. Please note that you will initially feel a little resistance when you release the cam
from its locked position; the spring will then do the rest of the work and pull the roller away
from the tyre and into the fully disengaged position (Fig.8).
INSTALLATION - ELECTRICAL/ELECTRONIC COMPONENTS
Please read the manual supplied with the electronics for wiring, operation and troubleshooting.
