Provisions for use, upkeep, maintenance and inspections
4.1
Usage
Stored liquids
4.1.1
(1) The Container may be used for the storage of liquids hazardous to water as per Section
1 (5), with the limitations mentioned therein.
(2) Storage of contaminated media is not permitted if the contamination in question changes
the behaviour of the substance.
Usable container volume
4.1.2
The permissible fill level of the Container can be found in the water regulations.
4.1.3
Documents
The Container manufacturer must provide the unit operator with the following documents:

Copy of this decision,

Copy of the regulations governing the accompanying items of equipment delivered,

Assembly instructions for the installation of the Container.
Operation
4.1.4
(1) Prior to commissioning of the Container, the operator must affix a sign, which is to be visible
at all times, with details of the liquid being stored, as described in Section 1(5), including
its density and concentration. This shall be without prejudice to any labelling required by
other legislation.
(2) The operating regulations set out in the Verordnung über Anlagen zum Umgang mit
wassergefährdenden Stoffen (AwSV) [German Ordinance on Installations for Handling
Substances Hazardous to Water]
(3) The Container may only be filled using fixed connections and an overfill protection system
that automatically interrupts filling or triggers an acoustic alarm in good time before the
permissible fill level is reached.
(4) For the purposes of the scope of application governed by this decision (static storage), the
Container must be emptied prior to its transportation. The installation position of a filled or
partially filled container cannot be changed.
(5) Alternately filling the Container with different media is not permitted.
(6) The Container shall be drained using a pump and a pump nozzle. Care must be taken to
ensure sufficient ventilation and air extraction for the Container.
(7) It is not permitted to stand/walk or apply loads on top of the Container or on the hinged
lid of the Container.
4.2
Upkeep and maintenance
(1) Measures to correct damage shall be clarified in consultation with a competent expert on
synthetic materials
(2) The use of solvents to clean the inside of the Container (e.g. for the purpose of an
inspection) is not permitted.
Inspections
4.3
4.3.1
Functional inspection/pre-commissioning inspection
(1) Once the Container has been installed and the corresponding pipelines and safety
equipment have been assembled, a functional inspection must be carried out. This consists
of a visual inspection, a leak test, an inspection of the filling, ventilation and extraction lines
and other such facilities.
