7. Putting into operation
Nobody must be in the water while the pump is running.
The pump must only be operated in the performance range indicated on the type plate.
Dry-running - i.e. operating the pump without discharging water - is to be avoided since the
absence of water may cause the pump to run hot. This may cause considerable damage on
the device.
Please make sure that the electrical plug connections are in the flood-proof area.
As long as the device is connected to the electrical mains, one must never reach with one's
hands into the opening of the pump.
The pump must not run while the pressure port or the pressure line are closed.
Please inspect the pump visually prior to each use. This applies in particular to the mains connection line and the
mains plug. Make sure that all screws are firmly tightened, and verify the perfect condition of all connections. A
damaged pump must not be used. In any case of damage, the pump has to be inspected by qualified service
staff.
If present, open a shut-off device within the pressure line, for instance a water tap. Insert the mains plug into a
230V AC socket. The pump will start to run immediately. For the first operation: The anti dry running protection
will delay the start by approximately 10 seconds. Shortly, the pump will start to discharge water.
For stopping the operation close the end device (e.g. the water tap). The pump will stop operation as soon as the
maximum pressure is reached. If the end device is opened and the pressure inside the system falls under 3 bar,
the pump starts operation again.
To stop the operation of the pump, please pull the mains plug off the socket.
Dry-running - i.e. the operation of the pump without discharging water - has to be avoided in any case since the
absence of water will make the pump run hot. This will cause considerable damage to the unit. The main reason
of dry running can usually be found in clogged or leaking intake lines or a lack of liquid to be discharged. In this
context, please note that the water level may vary as a result of the withdrawal of water, weathering influences,
seasonal changes or other reasons. For this reason it is recommended to install an automatic water level
indicator.
The electrical pumps of the T.I.P. AJ 4 Plus series are equipped with an integrated thermal motor protection
feature. In the case of overload, the motor will switch off independently and on again after cooling down. For
possible causes and their elimination, please refer to the "Maintenance and troubleshooting" section.
8. Automatic operation / anti dry running protection
The integrated electronic system enables an automatic operation of the pump in order to use the pumped water
as if it would come out of tap water system. The pump can be switch on or off by closing the water tap or other
end devices.
As soon as the power cord plug is connected, the pump starts with a delay of 10 seconds and discharges water.
After closing the end devices and building up the maximum pressure in the system, the pump stops operation.
The pump will automatically be switched on, if the end devices are opened and pressure in the system falls below
3 bar.
In contrast to pumps that are equipped with pressure vessels such as, for instance, domestic booster systems,
the automatic cut-out of the pump will not occur upon the reaching of a specific cut-out pressure, but rather by the
reduction of the flow rate down to minimum value as a result of the closing of consumers. Inside the water system
will be the maximum pressure the pump can build up (approx. 5.7 bar). In this process, the electronic pump
control will delay cutting-out by 40 seconds. This method will decrease the cut-in/cut-out frequency of the pump at
low flow rates and thus contribute to a sparing operation of the unit. This feature is also activated in the case of
the pumps dry-running and thus protects the device efficiently from damage which may be caused by operation in
the absence of water.
