18. Avoid unexpected operation.
Make sure that the mains switch is turned off when inserting the plug into the socket or
connecting to mains. Don't hold a soldering tool which is connected to a mains supply while
touching the mains switch.
19. Pay attention.
Be careful of what you do. Work with caution. Don't use the soldering tool if you are not
concentrated on your work.
20. Inspect the soldering tool for any damage.
Before further use of the soldering tool, safety devices or slightly damaged parts must be
carefully checked for error-free and intended operation. Inspect moving parts for error-free
operation and that they don't bind, or whether any parts are damaged. All parts must be
properly mounted and all requirements fulfilled for guaranteed error-free operation of the
soldering tool. Damaged safety devices and parts must be repaired or replaced by a quali-
fied technician, so long as nothing else is indicated in the Operation Manual.
21. Attention
Use only accessories or attachments which are listed in the accessories list of the
Operation Manual. Use only WELLER accessories or attachments on original WELLER equip-
ment. Use of other tools and other accessories can lead to a danger of injury.
22. Repairs to your soldering tool should be carried out by qualified technician
This soldering tool is in accordance with the relevant safety regulations. Repairs should only
be carried out by a qualified electrician using original WELLER replacement parts. Failure to
do so can lead to accidents for the operator.
23. Do not work on electrically live parts.
The grip of antistatic designed soldering tools is conductive.
24. Applications with other WELLER equipment
If the soldering tool is to be used together with other WELLER equipment and attachments,
also observe the warning notices given in the corresponding Operation Manual.
25. Observe the valid safety regulations for your work place.
2. Description

2.1 Control Unit

The microprocessor-controlled soldering station WDD 81V is part of a family of units that
has been developed for industrial production technology and for the service and laboratory
sector. The digital control electronics and a high-quality sensor and heat exchange system
in the soldering tool guarantee precise temperature control at the soldering tip. The highest
degree of temperature precision and optimal dynamic thermal behavior under load condi-
tions is obtained by the quick and accurate recording of measured values in a closed con-
trol circuit. The soldering tools themselves are recognized automatically by the WDD 81V
and the corresponding control parameters are assigned accordingly. The vacuum required
for desoldering is generated by an internal maintenance-free compressed air converter and
is activated via an integrated finger switch on the desoldering tool.
Various methods of equipotentially bonding the soldering iron bit, a zero voltage switch, and
the anti-static design of the control unit and soldering tools supplement the high standard
of the unit. The possibility of connecting an external input unit extends the functional diver-
sity of this desoldering station. Additional functions including timing and interlocking can be
realised using the WCB 1 and WCB 2 Input Units, available as optional extras. The extended
features of the WCB 2 Input Unit include an integrated temperature measurement unit and
a PC interface.
The required temperature can be set via 2 buttons (Up / Down) over the range from 50ºC -
450ºC (122ºF - 842ºF). Required and actual values are displayed digitally. A flashing red LED
in the display indicates when the selected temperature is reached, this LED serves as an
optical regulation monitor. The continuous illumination of the LED indicates that the system
is warming up.
2.2 Soldering tools
DSX 80:
80 W Desoldering Tool. Conical attachment system for the suction nozzle.
A wide range of suction nozzles enables solder to be removed from a wide
variety of solder joints. The tin collection container can be changed easily
without the need for tools. CSF desoldering plungers for the desoldering of
surface mounted components are available as accessories. Integrated fin
ger switch for activating the vacuum.
DSXV 80:
