7. Cleaning of stainless
steel
Cleaning equipment
Never use iron-containing scourers, steel wool or steel
brushes to clean stainless-steel surfaces. Cleaning imple-
ments that have previously been in contact with conven-
tional steel will contaminate stainless steel upon contact,
and hence affect its corrosive properties. Use only washed
cleaning utensils, which have not previously been used to
clean surfaces of conventional steel, to clean stainless-steel
surfaces.
Cleaning agents and care products
Generally, a washing-up liquid solution is sufficient for
cleaning stainless-steel surfaces. In case of stubborn dirt, a
common household cleanser can be used. Dirt containing
oil and grease can be removed using alcohol-based clea-
ning agents (e.g. spirits). After they have been cleaned, the
surfaces can be treated with metal preservatives for protec-
tion purposes. Use a washing-up liquid solution to clean the
stainless-steel components. Remove stubborn dirt using e.g.
a cleanser. Remove any dirt containing oil and grease using
alcohol-based cleaning agents (e.g. spirits). Cleaning agents
that can scratch and attack the stainless-steel surfaces and
must never be used are indicated next.
• Do not use scouring powder.
• Do not use cleaning agents that contain chloride or
hydrochloric acid.
• Do not use bleaches or silver polish.
