6 Commissioning
Before plugging in, check to see that the
rated mains voltage and mains
frequency, as stated on the rating label,
match with your power supply.
To prevent the hedge trimmer plug from inadvert-
ently being pulled out of the coupling socket of the
extension cable, attached the extension cable to
the cable strain relief device as shown (9) (Figure
on page 3).
Note: the cable tension device is designed to hold
approved extension cables that are used most
frequently for external applications.
For other approved extension cables that are also
used outside, we recommend using the cable
tension strap, order no. 6.31070 (see Accessories
section).
Check Quick stop:
Switch machine on briefly and then off again. Have
the machine repaired if braking time is clearly
lengthened.

7 Use

7.1

Switching On and Off

Switching on (safety two-hand operation):
• For normal applications: Press switch (7) and
switch (6).
• For a wider range: Press switch (8) and switch (7).
(Not for HS 45 SP, HS 45, HS 55, HS 65)
To switch off:
Release one of the two actuated switches.
Thanks to the patented Quick stop, the cutting
blades come to a standstill within 0.05 seconds.
Have the machine repaired if braking time is
clearly lengthened.
The noise that sometimes occurs during a
machine Quick stop is design-related and has no
influence on operation and service life.
7.2

Cleaning the cutting blade

(after every use)

Before cleaning:
Switch the machine off.
Pull the mains plug out of the socket.
Wear protective gloves.
Remove contamination, remains of blades etc.
(e.g. with a brush or cloth)
After cleaning: Treat cutting blade with Metabo
hedge trimmer care oil 6.30474 or Pump Spray
6.30475 (biologically degradable).

8 Tips and Tricks

To prevent the extension cable from slipping
between the cutting blades, it is advisable to start
cutting a hedge near the socket (cable drum etc.)
and then pull the cable along behind you as you
work.
Ensure that there are no birds brooding in your
hedge. If necessary, postpone your hedgecutting.
The chopped-up cuttings, combined with other
garden waste products, provide nutrient-rich
compost.
Unchopped cuttings placed in a natural garden
provide a useful place of retreat for small animals
such as hedgehogs.
Observe any local resting periods; your neighbour
will thank you for it.
