Troubleshooting

DISCONNECT AND LOCKOUT
WARNING
ELECTRICAL POWER BEFORE
ATTEMPTING ANY MAINTENANCE.
FAILURE TO DO SO CAN CAUSE A
SHOCK, BURN OR DEATH.
Hazardous voltage
can shock, burn or
cause death.
NOTE: Before implementing any remedial action recommended in the following Troubleshooting guide, refer to
"Recommended Precautions" and "Warning" sections of this manual. The following are some common causes of
problems that may arise.
Symptoms
Will not prime
Suddenly stops pumping.
Stops pumping until motor is
stopped and restarted.
Slowly stops pumping.
Excessive leakage around shaft.
Will not hold prime.
Poor performance
Noisy operation

Probable Cause
No liquid in pump casing (1).
Loose suction inlet (50).
Worn suction inlet gasket (49).
Loose drain plug (2).
Worn pump shaft seal assembly (17).
Leaky suction line.
Worn diffuser gasket (7).
Clogged suction line or suction
strainer (if used).
Collapsing suction hose lining.
Clogged impeller (6) or (91),
diffuser (46), check valve (51) or
suction line.
Work pump shaft seal (17).
Dislodged or worn check valve (51).
Small leak in suction line.
Worn seal or packing.
Impeller (6) or (91), seal
assembly (17) or diffuser (46).
Motor not up to speed:
(a) low voltage (b) worn bearings
Worn motor bearings.
Low discharge head.
Impeller clogged.
Worn coupling or misalignment.
Units operating at extreme left or
right end of performance curve
(capacity too high or too low).
Bearings running dry.
Recommended Action
Fill pump casing with liquid being
pumped.
Tighten bolts.
Replace with new gaskets.
Tighten plug, use pipe dope or
Teflon tape.
Install new seal.
Fix leaky suction. Check all
gasketed surface.
Replace diffuser gasket.
Clean suction line and strainer
Replace suction line and strainer.
Clean out debris from impeller eye
area, suction check valve, or from
diffuser vanes.
Replace seal assembly.
Clean or replace check valve. Clean
sealing surface.
Check suction hose or piping for
leak.
Replace seal or packing.
Install new impeller, seal or diffuser.
(a) larger lead wires required
(b) replace bearings.
Replace.
Throttle discharge.
Remove and clean impeller.
Replace or realign coupling.
Adjust for best performance point
of operation.
Check oil level or grease –
add if required.
