at the marked points. Fix the tailwheel unit to the fuselage using the screws provided.
A slot must now be drilled and filed in the bottom of the rudder to accept the plastic
tailwheel driver lug. Slip the plastic driver onto the projecting shank of the tailwheel
unit and glue it in the hole in the rudder.
Glue the aluminium sleeve for the rudder horn in the rudder using the method
described earlier. Allow the glue to set hard, then screw the M3 x 45 mm screw fully
into one of the plastic horn lugs. Screw this into the threaded sleeve and out of the
other side. When the second horn lug is fitted, the two linkage holes should be the
same distance from the rudder hinge pivot axis.
The braided steel pull-cables are attached to the ring-screws as shown in the left-
hand photo. This is the procedure: first slip a crimp sleeve onto the steel cable, then
pass the cable through the cross-hole in the ring-screw and back through the crimp
sleeve again. Squeeze (crimp) the sleeve onto the cable using flat-nose or round-
nose pliers; use sufficient force to ensure that the cable cannot slip or pull out.
Connect the two clevises to the plastic linkage lugs on the rudder horn, then run the
braided cables forward through the guide tubes to the rudder servo.
Attach the second set of ring-screws to the front end of both cables using the method
described above.
Set the rudder and the rudder servo to centre, then place both braided cables under
light tension and crimp the sleeves. Here again it is important to squeeze the sleeves
to the point where the steel cables cannot possibly shift or pull out.
The electric motor is screwed to the front mounting plate using the appropriate
aluminium backplate mount, which should first be fitted to the motor as shown.
When fixing the motor to the front mounting plate, ensure that the centreline of the
motor lines up accurately with the centre of the spinner upstand moulded into the
cowl. This can be checked by temporarily fitting the cowl and placing the spinner
backplate on the propeller driver.
At this point the speed controller can be connected to the motor. Connect and switch
on the radio control system, and check from the transmitter that the motor spins in
the correct direction.
Once you are sure of this, the cowl should be fixed to the fuselage using four pan-
head self-tapping screws.
This is the procedure: place the moulding over the fuselage nose, fit the spinner
backplate on the motor shaft, and adjust the position of the cowl until the shaft is
exactly central relative to the integral spinner upstand. There should be a gap of
about 1.5 mm between the spinner backplate and the front face of the cowl. Screw
the cowl to the fuselage in this position.
The speed controller is installed on the mounting plate behind the nose bulkhead. It
can be screwed in place or secured with Velcro cable-ties, depending on the type of
controller you are using.
The flight battery, receiver and receiver battery are installed on the plates inside the
fuselage as shown in the photo, and secured with Velcro cable-ties. The receiver
