CONTROLS

Never start the saw without first checking the following: that the saw is secure; the saw table is assembled and adjusted; that blade
tension is as required and that safety devices are checked. Do not connect the saw to the mains before making sure that all of the above
have been completed!
Otherwise, the saw may start up accidentally and lead to serious injury.
In order to minimise the risk of injury, please follow the safety instructions below when operating the saw:
- Use personal protective equipment.
- Only cut one workpiece at a time.
- While sawing, always press the workpiece against the table.
- Do not jam the workpiece.
- Do not slow down the saw blade by pressing it sideways.
- As required, use the following:
+ A push stick if the distance between the stop bar and the blade is 120 mm or less;
+ A support surface for long workpieces, which might otherwise fall off the table after the cut has been made;
+ A dust extraction system;
+ While sawing round stock, use an appropriate retaining device to keep it from turning.
+ While sawing thin pieces on edge, an appropriate stop angle must be used to prevent them from falling over.
Before starting work, make sure that the following are in perfect working order:
- saw blade
- upper and lower blade guards
Replace all damaged parts immediately.
Assume a correct working position while using the machine (the saw's teeth must point towards the operator).
Never cut several workpieces at the same time. Never bundle workpieces together to cut them. There is a risk of injury if individual pieces
are caught in an uncontrolled manner by the saw blade.
Never cut workpieces to which ropes, cords, strings, cables or wires are attached or which contain such materials.
A. ADJUSTING THE HEIGHT OF THE UPPER BLADE GUIDE
The height of the upper blade guide (E) Fig. 1 must be adjusted:
19
• prior to each cutting operation, in order to accommodate the height of the workpiece (the upper blade guide should be set approxima-
tely 3 mm above the workpiece while cutting);
• after adjusting the band saw blade or saw table (e.g. after changing the blade or adjusting the saw table).
Before adjusting the upper blade guide or the saw table tilt:
- Switch the machine off.
- Wait for the machine to come to a complete stop.
The upper blade guide (C) Fig. 11 is assembled on a trunnion. To adjust the height of this blade guide, turn the wheel (D) Fig. 1 clockwise to
lower the upper blade guide and anticlockwise to raise the upper blade guide.
B. SAWING
1. Select the table insert depending on the type of cut required:
a. Narrow table insert for straight cuts only.
b. Bevelled table insert for bevel cuts.
2. If required, adjust the saw table tilt.
3. Select the rip fence and the saw table tilt setting depending on the type of cut required.
4. Set and lock the upper blade guide 3 mm above the workpiece.
Note: Before cutting the workpiece, always make a trial cut and correct the settings if necessary.
5. Place the workpiece on the saw table.
6. Plug in the power cable.
7. Start up the saw.
8. Cut the workpiece in a single pass.
9. Switch off and disconnect the machine if it is not to be used immediately.
