ENGLISH
Electrical safety
This tool is double insulated; therefore no earth wire
is required. Always check that the power supply
corresponds to the voltage on the rating plate.
Features
This tool includes some or all of the following features.
1. On/off switch
2. Dust shroud
3. Shoe plate
Assembly
Warning! Before attempting any of the following operations,
make sure that the tool is switched off and unplugged and
that the saw blade has stopped.
Fitting the saw blade (fig. A)
Remove the dust shroud (2).
x
Hold the saw blade (6) as shown, with the teeth facing
x
forward.
Push the lever (4) upwards.
x
Insert the shank of the saw blade into the blade holder (5)
x
as far as it will go.
Release the lever.
x
Refit the dust shroud.
x
Adjust the blade support roller as described below.
x

Loosen the screw (8).
x
Push the blade support roller (7) forward until it touches
x
the saw blade.
Tighten the screw (8).
x
Use
Switching on and off
To switch the tool on, push the on/off switch (1).
x
To switch the tool off, release the the on/off switch.
x
Warning! Never attempt to lock a switch in the on position.
Hints for optimum use
Sawing laminates
As the saw blade cuts on the upward stroke, splintering may
occur on the surface closest to the shoe plate.
Use a fine-tooth saw blade.
x
Saw from the back surface of the workpiece.
x
To minimise splintering, clamp a piece of scrap wood or
x
hardboard to both sides of the workpiece and saw
through this sandwich.

Scrolling (fig. C)
Use a saw blade suitable for scrolling wood.
x
Holding the tool with one hand, slowly move the tool to
x
follow the line of cut.
Sawing metal
Be aware that sawing metal takes much more time than
x
sawing wood.
Use a saw blade suitable for sawing metal.
x
When cutting thin sheet metal, clamp a piece of scrap
x
wood to the back surface of the workpiece and cut
through this sandwich.
Spread a film of oil along the intended line of cut.
x
Accessories
The performance of your tool depends on the accessory used.

The following types of saw blades are supplied with your tool:
- Coarse wood blade (part no. 290155-01)
- Fine wood blade (part no. 290162-01)
- Scrolling wood blade (part no. 290126-01)
- Fine metal blade (part no. 290106-02)
Maintenance
Your tool has been designed to operate over a long period of
time with a minimum of maintenance. Continuous satisfactory
operation depends upon proper tool care and regular cleaning.
Regularly clean the ventilation slots with a clean,
x
dry paint brush.
To clean the tool, use only mild soap and a damp cloth.
x
Never let any liquid get inside the tool and never immerse
any part of the tool into liquid.
Mains plug replacement (U.K. & Ireland only)
If a new mains plug needs to be fitted:
Safely dispose of the old plug.
x
Connect the brown lead to the live terminal in the new plug.
x
Connect the blue lead to the neutral terminal.
x
Warning! No connection is to be made to the earth terminal.
Follow the fitting instructions supplied with good quality plugs.
Recommended fuse: 5 A.
Protecting the environment
Black & Decker provides a facility for recycling
Black & Decker products once they have reached the
end of their working life. This service is provided
free of charge.
