10. Starting the charge process with a Lixx battery
WARNING!
Batteries must not be connected to the charger if any of the following apply:
- Defective or damaged battery packs or cells.
- Non-rechargeable batteries (dry cells). Caution: explosion hazard!
- Batteries which are not expressly approved for the charge currents which this device generates
during the charge process.
- Battery packs which are already fully charged, hot, or only part-discharged.
- Batteries which are installed inside a device, or which are electrically connected to other components.
1.
Move the Mains PSU / Charger change-over switch to the "Charger" position (see Chapter 8).
2.
Use the LiFe / LiPo change-over switch to select the position appropriate to your battery (see
LED).
LiPo / LiIo = LED on! LiFe = LED off! Caution: it is very important to set the correct battery type,
as the cell voltage of the two types is different. Charging a LiFe battery at the LiPo setting will
ruin the battery. Caution: fire hazard! If you try to charge a LiPo battery at the LiFe setting, the
battery will not be charged.
3.
Connect the balancer plug to the charger's balancer socket.
4.
Connect the battery to the charger's charge socket as described in Chapter 9.
5.
The charger automatically sets the correct voltage in accordance with the pack's cell count.
6.
The charge process starts as soon as the battery is connected to the charge output and the ba-
lancer socket, and the charger is set to "Charger".
Caution: take care to select the correct charge current, as this helps to extend the useful life of your
batteries.
7.
You can adjust the charge current by rotating the current limiting adjuster.
8.
The charge current is automatically reduced towards the end of the charge process.
9.
The screen displays the voltage of the battery and the actual charge current.
10. The charge process is automatically terminated when the battery reaches the maximum total cell
voltage.
WARNING!
• Do not leave your batteries on charge unsupervised.
• Ensure that you have chosen the correct charge current, and that you are using the correct charge
output.
• It is essential to disconnect the batteries from the charger before disconnecting the charger from
the mains supply!
• If you connect the charger to the mains, but the screen or the charge monitor LED does not light up,
please check the following points:
- No mains voltage present at the mains socket; the mains socket may be faulty.
- The charger is faulty.
- Short-circuit at one of the outputs.
- Battery is deep-discharged. In this case it is usually sufficient to leave the battery connected to
the charger for a few minutes until the voltage has risen slightly.
- Battery or individual battery cells faulty.
• Do not dismantle the charger! If handled incorrectly there is a possibility of electrical shock.
• Remove the batteries and disconnect the charger from the mains socket when not in use.
