If we take a date of 1 January 2009 as an example, adjust the moon phase
to the last new moon (in this case 27 December 2008). Now move the moon
phase forward five times by moving the hands past midnight (see the mid-
night change description above). The current time can then be set. It may
be necessary to move the hands through another 12 hours to reach the
second half of the day after noon. The transmission ratio has been calcu-
lated so precisely that when the watch is kept in permanent use and fully
wound, the moon phase display only needs to be corrected by a single day
after 122 years.
