Dust/Chip Extraction

Dust from materials such as lead-containing coatings, some
wood types, minerals and metal can be harmful to one's
health. Touching or breathing-in the dust can cause allergic
reactions and/or lead to respiratory infections of the user or
bystanders.
Certain dust, such as oak or beech dust, is considered carci-
nogenic, especially in connection with wood-treatment ad-
ditives (chromate, wood preservative). Materials containing
asbestos may only be worked by specialists.
– Provide for good ventilation of the working place.
– It is recommended to wear a P2 filter-class respirator.
Observe the relevant regulations in your country for the ma-
terials to be worked.
Avoid dust accumulation at the workplace. Dust can

easily ignite.
Changing the tool (see figure C)
The drive unit (12) is supplied ex-works with a double sleeve
keyless chuck (16).
Inserting the application tool
– Turn the securing ring (27) in the "UNLOCK" direction.
– Turn the clamping sleeve (29) clockwise until the applica-
tion tool (17) can be inserted.
– Fully insert the application tool (17), hold it in the tool
holder and turn the clamping sleeve (29) anticlockwise
firmly by hand to tighten it. When doing so, hold the re-
taining ring (28) firmly in place.
– Turn the securing ring (27) in the "LOCK" direction.
Note: When using small drill bits, adjust the tool holder to
the rough drilling diameter first. Otherwise, there is a risk
that the drill bit will not be centred properly.
Removing the application tool
– Turn the securing ring (27) in the "UNLOCK" direction.
– Turn the clamping sleeve (29) clockwise until the applica-
tion tool (17) can be removed.
Operation
Pull the plug out of the socket before carrying out any

work on the power tool.
After each adjustment to the power tool, firmly
u
retighten all screws and clamping levers.
Work preparation
Illuminating the work area (see figure D)
Ensure that the immediate work area is sufficiently lit.
– To switch on the display (14), turn the on/off switch
(13) to position
.
– Press the button (30) to switch on the lighting unit (22).
"Light" appears on the display (14).
Positioning the workpiece correctly (see figure E)
A laser cross shows you the exact drilling point.
Bosch Power Tools
– To switch on the display (14), turn the on/off switch
(13) to position
.
– Press the button (31) to switch on the laser unit (22).
"Laser" appears on the display (14).
– Position your mark on the workpiece on the laser cross.
Clamping the workpiece (see figures F1–F2)
To ensure maximum safety while working, the workpiece
must always be firmly clamped. Do not saw workpieces that
are too small to clamp firmly.
The free end of long and heavy workpieces must have some-
thing placed underneath it or be supported.
Note: To clamp small workpieces, use a machine vice (e.g.
Bosch MS 80).
– Position the workpiece by referring to the laser cross.
– Release the quick-clamping lever (2) on the quick-action
clamp (3).
– Allow the quick-action clamp to rest on the workpiece.
Turn the quick-clamping lever (2) clockwise until the
workpiece is tightly clamped.
– After drilling, release the quick-clamping lever (2) by
turning it anticlockwise.
– Turn the quick-action clamp (3) to the side and remove
the workpiece.
The parallel guide (19) is used to prevent large workpieces
from twisting.
– Loosen the wing bolts (20) on the parallel guide (19) and
insert the parallel guide into the grooves of the base plate
(1).
– Retighten the wing bolts.
– Secure the workpiece using the quick-action clamp (3).
Adjusting the height of the drive unit (see figure G)
Do not adjust the height of the drive unit during opera-
u
tion. Only operate the clamping lever (7) when the hand
wheel is in its initial position. This precautionary measure
prevents potential injuries from occurring.
The height of the drive unit (12) can be adjusted according
to the length of the application tool and the size of the work-
piece.
Note: After adjusting the height of the drive unit, the posi-
tion of the workpiece must be checked again using the laser
cross. You may need to reposition the workpiece.
A brake prevents the drive unit (12) from sinking uninten-
tionally when the clamping lever (7) is released. Check the
clamping force of the brake occasionally and adjust if re-
quired.
– Ensure that the hand wheel (11) is in its initial position.
– Hold the hand wheel (11) with one hand and use the
other to release the clamping lever (7) by turning it anti-
clockwise.
– Use the hand wheel to adjust the height of the drive unit
(12) to correspond to the application tool that is in use
and the height of the workpiece.
– Retighten the clamping lever (7) by turning it clockwise.
