Painting

P-38J
Lightning
Previously painted
in
a
two-tone camou-
flage,
rrom
December 1943 U.S.
Army
aircraft
were
su
pplied
com
pletely unpainted
-
as they had been pre-war
-
a
decision
mad€ based upon improving
U.S, fortunes
in
the
conflict. Many aircraft were painted a
matte color such
as
olive drab
on
the upper
surface ol their nose and inside the engine
cowls
to reduce glare, and some had their
nose adorned with
nicknames
and
art.
Painting instructions for details are indicat-
ed during assembly.

Lightning
Vorher in einem zweifarbigen Tarnschema
lackiert, waren die Flugzeuge
derAmerika-
nischen Army Air Force ab Dezember
1943
komplett unlackiert,
wae
sie auch vor dem
Krieg waren.
Dann
gab es eine
Entschei-
dung die
Chancen
der
IJS
Flugzeuge
zu
verbossern.
Viele
Flugzeuge
wurden
in
einer
matten
Farbe
wie
Dunkeloliv
lackiert
auI der Oberseite der Nase und an
den
lnnenseiten
der
Motorgondeln
um
eine
Blendung des Piloten
zu
vermeiden. Einige
trugen Spitznamen
an der Nase und Bilder.
