CAUTION
It is imperative to read the chapter "Sa-
fety" before using the product and to
observe its precautions.
The prerequisites for a successful application of con-
tact glasses are an efficient anesthesia of the cornea
and conjunctiva, which is not damaging the cornea
epithelium.
The space between the eyes and the contact glass
is to be filled with drops of 2% Methocel, being an
isotonic fluid non-damaging to the cornea and con-
junctiva.
Fluctuations in temperature only exercise a minimal
influence over the viscosity of the contact fluid. The
fluid has the property of not seeping away when ap-
plied and the appearance of air bubbles is also exten-
sively prevented.
Applying the contact glass
The contact glass can be applied to the anesthetized
eye without any problem whilst the head of the patient
remains supported on the headrest. The patient is re-
quested to look upwards and the examiner draws the
lower lid down and away from the eye.
If required, the upper lid can be drawn upwards so-
mewhat with the thumb of the other hand. The con-
tact glass is moistened with a drop of Methocel and
placed on the conjunctiva and the patient then reque-
sted to look straight to the front, whereby the contact
glass is permitted to glide over the cornea. Any air
bubbles can be dispersed by tilting and turning the
contact glass.
