Direct contact glasses
for laser treatment applications
. Retina contact glass CGRL
The CGRL is a wide angle contact glass designed for
laser photocoagulation and diagnosis of the retina. It
is made of laser resistant glass and is antireflection
coated
. The optical design with a concave entran-

ce surface allows a wide angle observation and laser
treatment without intermediate imaging and without
the associated intermediate focal spot inherent to in-
direct ophthalmoscopy.
The result is a small, lightweighted contact glass
which increases the field of view, without increasing
the working distance, while providing an excellent
image quality and good resolution. The whole poste-
rior pole including the temporal vascular arcades, can
be viewed simultaneously. It is used for axial and pa-
raxial photocoagulation.
Optical Properties
The CGRL Retina contact glass creates an upright
virtual image of the fundus. The cone angles of both
laser and observation beam are reduced from 6° in
air to 3.2° in vitreous. As a consequence the field of
view is increased from 46° to 64°, which allows ob-
servation of the whole posterior pole.
