Direct glasses for diagnostic purposes
.
Contact glass 90
For the binocular slit observation of the pupil, the ma-
cula, its surroundings out to 30° as well as the central
vitreous body sections.
The refractive power is - 64 D. The linear, axial and
angular enlargement does not depend on the refrac-
tion of the eye to be examined, which is of importance
for measurements taken at the ocular fundus and in
the vitreous body.
The contact glass has a weight of 1.5 grams and con-
sists of two parts: the optically effective body of the
glass with the haptic and the funnel to facilitate the
handling of the contact glass. The effective optical
surface has a diameter of 12 mm. Optic made of acry-
lic glass.
Examination of the ocular fundus
Before an examination with the fundus contact glass,
a maximum mydriasis is desirable. The contact glass
is positioned under topical anesthesia, using Metho-
cel 2% (see chapter 4 "Operating").
The patient's eye is brought into the required positi-
on by means of the fixation device and the area to be
examined observed at 10 to 16 x magnification using
the brightest possible, narrow slit.
During examination, the binocular, stereoscopic slit
observation procedure is primarily to be followed, for
which purpose the widest possible angle between the
illumination and the microscope is of advantage. At
the commencement of the examination, the beam is
small and then enlarged, as soon as the slit image can
be viewed binocularly.
