.5 Capsulotomy Contact Glass CGPL
The CGPL capsulotomy contact glass was designed
by Riquin, Fankhauser et al. for the dissection of opa-
cified posterior lens capsules and membranes in the
pupillary and retropupillary space with the YAG laser.
This contact glass increases safety and efficacy of the
laser procedures. It lowers the minimal laser energy
that is necessary for disruption of the capsule and it
reduces the likelihood of IOL pitting. The magnifying
effect allows for improved aiming accuracy, which is
particularly important in the presence of a lens im-
plant. Beam handling is facilitated by the large diame-
ter of the contact glass. It is made of laser resistant
glass and is antireflection coated
Optical Properties
The CGPL contact glass increases the cone ang-
le of the laser beam and therefore it increases the
beam diameter on out-of-focus structures, while it de-
creases the focal spot. The effective focal spot reduc-
tion is achieved by minimizing spherical aberrations
and coma through the application of the Young-Wei-
erstrass theorem: The contact glass has been desi-
gned with the aplanatic point of the entrance surface
located in the retropupillary space, at eight millimeters
posterior to the cornea.
