17 Checking the Trimmer
The motor will not switch on unless the trigger
switch lockout and trigger switch are pressed at
the same time. Once the trigger switch is activa‐
ted and the trimmer is running, the trigger switch
lockout can be released
16.2
Switching Off
WARNING
■ The cutting attachment will continue to move
for a short while after the trigger switch is
released. To avoid serious or fatal injury, avoid
contact with the moving cutting attachment. To
reduce the risk of personal injury from uninten‐
ded activation or unauthorized use, switch off
the motor, ensure the cutting attachment has
stopped and remove the battery before trans‐
porting or putting the trimmer down.
To switch the trimmer off:
► Release the trigger switch so that it springs
back to the locked position. In the locked posi‐
tion, activation of the trigger switch is once
again blocked by the trigger switch lockout.
The cutting attachment will continue to move for
a short time after the trigger switch is released.
Take care to avoid contact after releasing the
trigger switch and when setting down the trim‐
mer.
17 Checking the Trimmer
17.1
Testing the Controls
Before starting work, confirm that the trigger
switch lockout (1) and trigger switch (2) are
undamaged and functioning properly:

WARNING
■ To reduce the risk of serious or fatal injuries,
keep hands, feet and other parts of the body
away from the cutting attachment. Do not
touch the cutting attachment while the battery
is inserted. Never touch the moving cutting
attachment with your hand or any part of your
body,
(15 m) away while testing the controls.
To test the controls:
► Remove the battery.
► Attempt to depress the trigger switch.
If the trigger switch can be depressed without
first depressing the trigger switch lockout, take
the trimmer to an authorized STIHL servicing
dealer to be repaired before use.
► Insert the battery and hold the trimmer firmly
with both hands, your fingers wrapped tightly
around the handles. Switch on the trimmer by
depressing the trigger switch lockout (1) and
trigger switch (2).
The trimmer should switch on. If it does not,
take the trimmer to an authorized STIHL serv‐
icing dealer to be repaired before use.
► Insert the battery and hold the trimmer firmly
with both hands, your fingers wrapped tightly
around the handles. Switch on the trimmer by
depressing the trigger switch lockout (1) and
trigger switch (2). Then release the trigger
switch.If the cutting attachment does not stop
after you release the trigger switch, remove
the battery and take the trimmer to an author‐
ized STIHL servicing dealer to be repaired
before use.

■ To reduce the risk of injury from damaged or
broken parts, check the condition of the trim‐
mer, mowing head and cutting attachment
before starting work and at regular, short inter‐
vals thereafter. Do not operate the trimmer
with broken, damaged or malfunctioning parts,
