If the LED flashes red: there is no con‐
tact between the battery and the
charger. Remove and reinsert the bat‐
tery.
or
The battery has a malfunction and
must be replaced. Do not use or
charge the battery.
or
The charger has a malfunction. Have it
checked by an authorized STIHL serv‐
icing dealer before use.
If the LED glows red continuously : The
battery is too hot or too cold for charg‐
ing. Allow the battery to warm up or
cool down gradually at an ambient tem‐
perature of about 50 °F to 68 °F (10 °C
to 20 °C).

13 Assembling the Trimmer
13.1
Mounting the Deflector
WARNING
■ To reduce the risk of injury from thrown
objects or contact with the cutting attachment,
never operate the trimmer without a properly
mounted deflector. Keep bystanders at least
50 ft. (15 m) away.
To mount the deflector:
► Switch off the trimmer,
► Remove the battery,

► Push the deflector (2) into the guides on the
housing until it stops.
The deflector must be tight against the hous‐
ing.
► Insert and tighten the screws (3).
The line limiting blade (1) comes mounted in the
deflector and may not be removed.

Mounting the Bump Guard
To mount the bump guard:
► Switch off the power tool,
► Remove the battery,

► Insert the ends of the bump guard (1) into the
holes (2) in the housing.
The bump guard does not have to be removed
again.

WARNING
■ Use of wire or metal-reinforced line is not
authorized and could be extremely dangerous.
Use only the cutting attachments recommen‐
ded in this manual, in combination with the
recommended deflector,
WARNING
■ A damaged or loose cutting attachment or
mowing head may vibrate, crack, break or
come off the trimmer which may result in seri‐
ous or fatal injury or property damage. Make
sure the mowing head and cutting attachment
are properly tightened and in good condition
before starting work,
To mount a mowing head:
► Switch off the trimmer,
► Remove the battery,

► Position the unit so that you are facing the
underside of the deflector and the drive shaft
is pointed upwards.
