Application of colored Orthocryl
In order to guarantee secure hardening of the color layers, we recommend applying a layer of clear Orthocryl

5.1. Application of the Orthocryl
Example: activator
After the upper and lower model have been placed in the fixator by means of an activating bite*, both parts of the
fixator are separated and models are prepared as described in section 5.
Orthocryl
®
LC is then applied to the palatal side of the upper jaw and to the lingual side of the lower jaw. The
Orthocryl
LC bite paste is then taken from the jar with a spatula or a wax knife and applied onto the occlusal or
®
the incisal part of the lower model. To ensure the material is entering all areas of the structure (bite ramp) and to
avoid air bubbles, make sure you apply an excess amount of bite paste.
Following this, both parts of the fixator are put together again, the excess material is removed, if necessary, and the
closed fixator is placed in the light-curing unit.
* There is enough space in the Solidilite V unit from Shofu for average-sized models if they are placed in the fixator 072-004-00 in a space-saving
manner (close to telescopic bars).
6. Polymerization
The specifications on polymerization times refer to the recommended light-curing unit Solidilite V from SHOFU
Dental GmbH, Germany. Please observe the instructions for use for this unit.
The rotary plate in the curing chamber is height-adjustable. During polymerization of the described expansion plate,
the rotary plate should be at the highest position possible according to the instructions for use of the light-curing
unit Solidilite V.
The polymerization of Orthocryl
light output of 4 x 150 watt (600 watt). The time of polymerization for a single jaw appliance is 3 minutes and
6 minutes for bimaxillary appliances (Fig. 9). Afterwards, carefully remove the appliance from the model (Fig. 10)
and cure the appliance for further 1 – 3 minutes with the basal side up.
Caution!
Remove the air-inhibition layer (smear layer) on the polymerized appliance, see point 7.
7. Removing inhibition layer
Completely remove the air-inhibition layer (smear layer). Apply Orthocryl
piece of fabric and remove the smear layer.
Caution!
To eliminate any kind of risk for the patient, it is essential that the air-inhibition layer (smear layer) is completely
removed (see safety data sheet). Direct application in the mouth is not permitted!
