Introduction
This manual applies to the Vetus (rigid) plastic diesel fuel
tanks.
These tanks conform to ISO 10088 Standards.
For dimensions, see drawings on page 16. Tolerances of + or
- 2% apply to all dimensions!
Petrol:
These tanks can also be used for petrol on ships which do
not come under the European Directive for Recreational Craft
(DRC). The tanks should be installed in a well-ventilated
room. Check the rubber seals regularly.
Installation
N.B.: The numbers printed in bold refer to the drawing numbers
on page 14/15.
General
When choosing a location for the tank and a place for the deck
filler cap, take the following into account:
The filler hose must be kept as short as possible, it must run
continuously to the tank and be as straight as possible.
! WARNING
Never fit the filler cap in an enclosed space, spilled fuel
could then enter the ship!
When the fuel tank is used for petrol, the room where the tank
is fitted must be sufficiently ventilated. See also remarks in
'Introduction'.

Instead of just one tank, it is also possible to distribute the
total capacity required over two or more tanks.

In the case of a twin-engine installation, it is strongly
recommended that a separate tank is installed for each
engine. The fuel supply pipes should be fitted in such a
way that in the case of an emergency, either of the tanks
can supply both engines.
Each tank must be fitted with a filler connector and air-
relief.

Distribute the tanks, and thus the weight, evenly over the
ship (F = Fuel, W = Water).

Install the tank in such a way that it is easily accessible
for inspection. The tank should always be installed above
the maximum bilge water level. Also ensure that there is
sufficient free space at the top of the tank for the hose
connection. This connection must be easily reached dur-
ing installation. For ventilation, the tank should have a free
space of about 1 cm. from bulkheads or other tanks.

Make sure the tank has a sufficiently secure foundation on
which to install it and secure it properly. The dimensions of
the tank will increase a little when it is filled. Take this into
account when fixing the tank. Fix the tank securely with
the fitting straps from the installation kit; these will accom-
modate the expansion of the tank.

Push the rubber grommets in the pre-drilled holes.
One specific connection side of each fitting must always
be fitted in the rubber grommet. Moisten the fittings and
press in the rubber grommets.

Use the drill stencil supplied to cut the hole for the con-
nector cap.
Remove all burrs.
Clean the inside of the tank before fitting the connec-
tor cap.
The order of assembly of cap and fittings is dependent on
the dimensimns of the supply and return pipes:

Connector cap for 8 and 10 mm supply and return
pipes.
- Connector Cap (1). Fit the connector cap in the tank.
First screw the cap firmly to the counter washer with the
M5 x 35 screw (8), then turn the connector cap and fit the
remaining M5 x 25 screws (9).
- Filler Connector (4). A 38 mm. diameter filler hose can
be connected directly to the filler connector. If a 50 mm.
diameter hose is to be connected, then first saw off
section (A). After sawing, remove all burrs from the filler
connector (B).
Place the O-ring (12) in the cap and fit the filler connec-
tor.
- Fuel suction (2). Fit the compression connector (10) in
the cap, cut the suction pipe to the correct length - the
underside should be 10 - 15 mm.from the underside of
the tank - and fit the suction pipe in the compression
connector.
- Fuel Return (3). Fit the hose pillar (14).If the engine
does not have a fuel return circuit, fit the blind plug
(13).
- Air relief (5). Fit the hose pillar (5).
- Earth connection (6). Fit the contact tongue (6).
- Cover/sender for fuel level indicator (7). Fit the cover
(7) or fit the fuel level indicator sender.

- Fuel return (3). Fit the return outlet loop (17) with the
clamp tube (15) and two O-rings. The underside of the
return outlet loop should be located about 20 mm.from
the tank bottom and away from the fuel suction tube.
- Connector cap (1). Fit the connector cap in the tank.
First screw the cap firmly to the counter washer with the
M5 x 35 screw (8), then turn the connector cap and fit the
remaining M5 x 25 screws (9).
- Filler Connector (4). A 38 mm. diameter filler hose can
be connected directly to the filler connector. If a 50 mm.
diameter hose is to be connected, then first saw off

connector (B).
Place the O-ring (12) in the cap and fit the filler connec-
tor.
- Fuel suction (2). Fit the fuel suction pipe (16) with the
clamp tube (15) and two O-rings - the underside should
be 10 -15 mm. from the underside of the tank.
- Air relief (5). Fit the hose pillar (5).
